Jon Snow is a zealous social reformer and the
seasoned long-term presenter of Channel 4 News. He has turned out to be a
pro-EU Remainer. He is horrified by the utter lack of integrity among MPs and
the habitual glib lying of the Brexiters – from PM Theresa May down to the
lowest of the low – Farage. Snow’s father was a C of E Bishop.
Jeremy Corbyn and allies are 1960’s elderly soviet
communists. He is a die-hard Brexit man because he thinks (wrongly) that the EU
is a nest of greedy capitalist bankers, sucking the life-blood of the poor. It
was Jeremy Corbyn who pushed through into law Article 50 (Withdrawal Agreement)
– saying the UK leaves Europe on 29th March. He did this while
pretending to be a Remainer - in total contradiction to 80% of his Party
Members. He is a sly and stubborn old man. Like Trump – he became Labour Leader
via an accidental joke. He wants to smash the system and rebuild it as a
communist state.
Brexit will lose the UK the equivalent of 7 million
jobs -1/5th to 1/6th of our economy. It will bankrupt the
UK. It is disastrous. The basic mechanism is that if/when we have to apply WTO
rules – we HAVE to add tariffs ranging from 3% to 38% on the goods and services
we sell to the World – and to the EU. Every marketing /sales director on earth
says that we will lose the same percentage of export sales as we add to the
tariffs: e.g. on cars and parts the tariff is 9.8%. Millions of jobs. The City
of London, the jewel in our crown for hundreds of years, is migrating to the EU
– now – today.
Why are the VIP Brexiters doing it? Ordinary dumb
Leavers haven’t the faintest clue what they are doing. They get very huffy and
insulted when told that on Brexit they are “as thick as two short planks”. I
haven’t met a single Leaver – from the upper or lower classes who knows what a
No-Deal Brexit is (walking away on WTO rules) – and/or what the WTO tariffs are
– and /or how WTO trade disputes are resolved (in the WTO Court in Geneva). As
Aaron Banks and Putin and Trump have proved, the herd vote from their confused
“feelings”. Brains and facts are in very short supply. It is these ordinary
folk who will suffer most and pay for the whole debacle.
VIP Leavers such as top-hatted Rees-Mogg and his
ERG pals etc. are desperate to escape the EU tax-net closing on them. They (and
most media owners) are ALL offshore – in tax-havens and by birthright
they don’t pay tax “Only little people pay tax”. The EU courts are likely to
overturn their cosy tax-free arrangements. There is about £2.3 trillion of UK
assets in tax-havens. That’s a lot of loot. All of the VIP Brexiters have
already acquired dual passports – moved their money into Europe or tax-havens –
and are quitting London. They panic on to the EXIT door at any cost to the UK.
The consequences are both for trade – it will take
at least ten years to re-negotiate our trade agreements with about 160
countries on 70,000 traded items – and for the United Kingdom. N. Ireland,
Scotland and then Wales will quit the UK and join the EU. None of the Celts want
to go down with the English ship run by a demented Mrs May or saboteur Mr
Corbyn: we have no other vote options. London voted Remain – but it is in
harness to the dumb, tattooed, shaven headed unemployed from the backward
regions - who follow the great liars. The Dis-United-Kingdom.
Mrs May runs the Government (the Cabinet) – who are
at last rebelling. Corbyn claims his strength from the 500,000 young voters who
joined Labour on the promise of a Brave New World – not a collapse into
rust-belt economics – gnawing home-grown raw vegetables. Their slogan now is
“Love Corbyn – Hate Brexit”.
Our only hope before the 29th March is
The Civil Service and senior Remainers (The Deep State) obtaining a 21 month
extension to Article 50 – and then in the interim convincing The People that
Brexit really, really is disastrous – and then having a People’s Vote. Of our
650 MPs, 500 are Remainers – silenced by Mrs May’s bullying. The deep-state
moves are in-hand now. The deeply, deeply, deeply stupid rush to economic suicide
might yet be stopped. Who will emerge as a sane leader of our 650 MPs? We don’t
know.
I comfort myself with the knowledge that at 76,
I’ll probably survive pretty much as I am, until death at last brings blessed
relief.

Dear Lee and Noel,
I heard one of your veteran journalists—Jon Snow—being interviewed on our NPR yesterday. He described Brexit (which he opposes as an ill-conceived, deliberately deceptive throwback to nostalgia and worse) as the greatest threat since World War II. I don’t know Jon Snow, but he sounded sensible and grounded in solid history. Is there no foreseeable way to prevent this headlong disaster? Why is there such resistance to stopping it? Why the hell has Corbyn acted so irresponsibly? . Even a delay at this point would be preferable to May’s plan or a hard exit.
Inquiring minds want to know!!

PS: I ask these questions knowing I cannot answer why we
can’t do anything to stop Donald Trump before and short of the 2020 elections.
Partly it’s b/c the Republicans are so complicit and craven here. Maybe like
your equivalents???
