GRAVITY AND MOONSHINE

Resisting the powerful temptation to comment on The City of London spending £92 million a year to change UK government policies, I lift my eyes to the heavens and turn to the most powerful and most mysterious force in the universe, gravity.

Isaac Newton discovered and encoded the Laws of Gravity, which work perfectly for cricket balls, birds, planes, the solar system and interplanetary rockets. All mainstream universal models are based on gravity, the calculations of which wind-back to the Big-Bang. We all experience gravity, all the time; even in “gravity-free” space flight where we know we are balancing the tug of gravity by “falling” towards the Earth (but managing to miss and continue in orbit).

In current theory, “empty” space contains 6 (six) hydrogen atoms (the air around us has millions of billions of hydrogen atoms) per cubic metre; gravity did or will over eons draw them together, find a few more, continue to aggregate atoms and form a star. This is how all life began. But nobody knows what gravity is.

IMAGINE that on the allegedly solid Moon, we dig a 3,475 km tunnel straight through the middle, from South Pole to North Pole.  It’s a wide tunnel fitted with a lift /elevator. You and I go down 1,737 km in the elevator from the South Pole, assisted by gravity, to the centre of the Moon. Experience tells us, we will indeed go “down” and Newton’s maths highly accurately inform us that gravity is measured from the centre of masses – from planet centre to centre or from Moon centre to Earth centre. Common sense tells us we will go down to the centre. What next?

At the centre we intuitively know we must climb up to the surface to the North Pole. It’s helpful to have an elevator. But how do we make the transition from “down” to “up”. Is there a weird fuzzy field, a gravitational gateway, we go through head first, heads down, to find on the other side we are heads up? Is the transition abrupt or gradual, in Calculus slices? Do we encounter a gravity-free zone where all the rock and iron in the Moon exert perfectly balanced tugs on us?

Does the force of gravity that we feel on the surface, with 1,737 km of material beneath us, diminish as we near the centre? Imagine having only 5 km of rock and iron between us and the centre and 1,732 km above. It could be thought that the far greater mass above us will draw us up and hinder us from going down.

Discounting any centripetal /centrifugal effect of the spinning Earth, Do Everest climbers experience more or less gravity at the 5 miles high peak – with more “stuff” below them?

WHO IS LAUGHING ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK?

Economists tell us that The City or UK Financial Services, "Lost" £1,200,000,000,000 or £1.2 Trillion in 2008/09. Money can't be "lost" - it is paid out or transferred by authorised cashiers, against invoices, money-orders, brokers-notes etc. Every DEBIT has a CREDIT. The UK's losses are others' gains. The sensible assumption is that the departments making up the losses - HM Treasury and The Bank of England - have audited and tracked the bulk of these gigantic amounts and know who made money as we lost it. The UK households paying £58,000 each to make up The City losses need to know which institutions and individuals around the world have made vast "Free Market" profits. We need to know these "losses" are not back-to-backs by cunning UK traders with branches in tax-havens (lose it in London, get tax relief - make it in Cayman, pay no taxes).  Which firms lost it - and who made it?

In the meantime, the UK media is desperately pumping out the message that UK Financial Services make a major contribution to our economy; and their "vital work" must continue. Note to the BBC.
***************

Dear BBC Editors et al,

PLEASE CHECK THE FACTOIDS YOU GET FROM THE FINANCIAL-SERVICES P.R. MACHINE.

Anita Anand on BBC Radio 4 Any Answers on 7 July 2012, vis-à-vis Bob Diamond, incorrectly said UK financial services contribute £63 billion a year to our economy. If ALL the wages and bonuses paid each year to 1.3 million employees were considered as “contributions”; they amount to only £45 billion a year, not £63 billion. Most of these wages are in fact paid by the public in credit card and loan charges and can be considered as a drain on the community. Does she claim that the UK earns £63 billion profit from overseas?

Financial Services lost £1.2 trillion in 2008/09 which is £52,258 per UK household. Even IF all the wages are treated as an annual benefit to the UK, it would take 25 years for those wages to compensate UK households for the losses.  That is probably why people are angry. The City has lost or siphoned away ALL the claimed gains of the past 30 years – and thus all their bonuses were paid under false pretences; and should be clawed back.

Also – you seem to have taken the PR bait in having ALL your presenters repeat of highly complex offshore etc tax-dodges “Of course they are completely legal”. This is legal nonsense, inaccurate and misleading. Neither you nor your presenters can possibly know if schemes are legal or illegal. The professional rule-of-thumb is that if commercially unnecessary steps are inserted in transactions – it is false accounting and tax-evasion (fines & prison). Most of the schemes you report fall into that category. All such tax-haven funds (about £2 trillion) should be subjected to Back-Duty tax law and repatriated to the UK.

TURING AND THE BEASTS

Alan Turing 1912-1954. Inventor of computers.
Solved ENIGMA in WW2, saving thousands of lives

Despite receiving my favourite magazine, New Scientist, with speculations about THE HIGGS, I am indebted yet again to The Guardian for a timely piece on Alan Turing and his Manchester University team’s remarkable 1951 computer “MADAM” Manchester Automatic Digital Machine. There, working in my home city when I was nine years old and living in Wilmslow, where I married, was the mathematical genius who envisaged, imagined and designed the template for all modern computers, before being cruelly hounded to death by the British establishment for being as “Queer” as many of them secretly were.  It is a perfect example of the Beasts – with brutish, thugish, stupid, fearful, primitive power - crushing intuition, intellect, vision and feeling.

This blog and my website News track our transformation from such vicious animals, within all of us, to the coming era of intelligent cooperation and social justice. There is a way to go before we rest.

The 1951 article, just 3 years before Turing died, says “…The magnetic drum will hold 650,000 binary digits and each of the eight cathode-tubes sixty-four twenty digit numbers. It will add up 500 numbers before you could say addition”; a 650K memory and 1K processor.  In the city of violent Luddites as well as invention, the Manchester journalist worries about the jobs of the hundreds of clerks it may one day replace.  Without Turing we couldn’t start to look for THE HIGGS.

My forecast, holding in mind the Wall Street /City scandals and shambles and the 1.3 million financial services jobs in the UK, is that (responsibly globally managed) computers will rapidly replace all the world’s Bob Diamonds and 80% of the workforce. Of all human activities, bookkeeping, adding up and taking away – with a bit of multiplication and division – is the easiest occupation to transfer en-masse to computers. The hugely expensive Luddites and the gluttonous Beasts will have to give up their comfortable, useless, tapeworm livelihoods and their costly, idiotic, current privileged stranglehold on the Money-Economy.  They'd all enjoy living and indulging in unregulated gambling on Rockall, I imagine.

The qualities of Alan Turing and Silicon Valley will triumph – soon.

HIGGS BOSON AND CUSTARD

Death of the Higgs
SADLY:- The HIGGS does not confer mass, says CERN; at least not much mass "approximately a fingernail of mass compared to the whole human body"

March 2013 - In happier times for the Higgs -
The Guardian newspaper today patiently explains that the hugely celebrated Higgs Boson, tentatively formally identified by scientists at the LHC - Large Hadron Collider, at CERN, Geneva - “confers” mass on empty space thus converting Space-Time into the Higgs-Field; illustrating it with “…if space (formerly empty, now the Higgs-Field) were custard, some sub-atomic particles have to wade through the custard which sticks to them, which makes them heavy. Others, such as Photons, pass through it without any stickiness and are not slowed down…”

Are you, gentle reader, any the wiser?

The chart may help to understand the Particle-Zoo that the Higgs belongs to.

I tried to unravel the myths, metaphors and similes a few weeks ago, with my text:

HIGGS BOSON: The Higgs (Prof Higgs’) Boson (photons and other ephemeral tiny parts of the atom) is an alleged relatively large tiny sub-atomic (smaller than an atom but 133 times bigger than a proton) photonic particle that Prof Higgs (an English physicist) mathematically calculates (Prof. Higgs still lives) to be the particle that is missing from the “particle zoo” that constitute The Standard Model (of the atom etc). Most other particles that have been calculated to exist have actually been found at research centres like the Large Hadron Collider or LHC at CERN. (“Large” means big; “Hadrons” are found at the centre or Nucleus of an atom – made of Quarks (the tiniest of all particles. Rhymes with ‘corks’) and include many types including pions and kaons; “Collider” means the Hadrons are bashed together at CERN at high speed). The very expensive collisions smash the Hadrons into bits. Scientists hope that one of the bits will be the elusive Higgs Boson.
I have just alienated all scientists and given Richard Dawkins terminal apoplexy by using English, magic, God and inappropriate Caps for emphasis, instead of maths-physics-obscure-language, which is vitally necessary to secure their budgets.

Sub-Atomic particles colliding in a particle accelerator.

Scientists explain that the Higgs Boson confers mass on matter, on the other sub-atomic particles such as photons and electrons that are otherwise weightless. It weighs - or compresses light-energy of about 125 Giga (a billion) electron volts. (WikiP - data hints at a possibility the Higgs may exist with a mass around 125 GeV/c2 (about 133 proton masses, on the order of 10−25 kg).)

The evidence that the Higgs is indeed missing, or not yet found, is in the calculation that in the centre of atoms, where the Quarks are, about 80% of mass is missing and that at the other end of the scale, galaxies are “missing” up to 90% of the mass needed to glue them together. The Higgs would provide the glue in the form of more gravity. Gravity is also a scientific mystery.

Now you might have a little more understanding. If not – do not despair – as to really understand what Professor Higgs and his fellow particle-physicists are presenting requires being one of about one hundred mathematical-physicists in the world who can confidently perform, follow and correct the mathematics.

Even the genius Albert Einstein needed expert help with the maths for his celebrated theories. So don’t feel badly about yourself.

Real science relies on repeatable, predicted experimental results. CERN needs to check their recent findings and the wider scientific community at other particle accelerators need to reproduce the results. This may give me time to build up my understanding of the Higgs – and find words to describe it.  So far, my own amateur ideas (EIG, Expansion is Gravity) of how the universe works and what that “custard” might be (i.e. my Aether-Matrix); still accord with currently accepted knowledge.

"THE CITY" - THE LAST WORD

Big news is expected about The Higgs Boson today – if there is anything new under the Sun – but before this blog again wrestles to comprehend the mysteries of the universe and forecast the future; here is advice on the future of “The City”.

AIMS: WE WANT INTELLIGENT LEADERS TO CREATE GOOD PROJECTS, GOOD JOBS AND GOOD FUTURES FOR OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN.

1) Pathetic slack-jawed idiots who mouth “…but there’s no money left” should be re-educated in Siberian Gulags for 10 years, to shock their dumb brain cells into action; or be taken to the Vet and kindly put out of their deluded misery.

2) The Real-Economy is the most productive, wealthiest, most automated, most sustainable – ever. The global problems are sharing the wealth fairly in the Money-Economy.  Incontinent mad money-gamblers may wreck the whole machine.

3) The Money-Economy, the paperwork, has been hi-jacked, sabotaged and shovelled to tax-havens for 30 years by spivs, rogues and sociopaths. The Rivers of Cash could be and should be repatriated via Back-Duty tax laws.

4) The Money-Economy is ridiculously overstaffed and overpriced. It (bookkeeping) could be and should be transparently run on international computers – IBM Mainframes. Introduce a single World Currency. In the meantime, the incumbents should damn well do their overpaid jobs properly, with integrity, good faith and goodwill.

5) The Money-Economy is only bookkeeping. It should follow and serve the Real-Economy and the Knowledge-Economy, not purport to lead them.

6) The Knowledge-Economy, the electronic revolution, the Internet and its peripherals, can quickly replace “The City” and manage the transition to fair-share, automated systems. It requires honest, courageous World Statesmen. Does anybody know one?

As Captain Picard commands his loyal crew: “Make it so!”

20th July 2015. Letter to The Guardian

The deeply worrying implication of Jill Treanor’s report of KPMG’s analysis “Banks expected to struggle with ring-fencing target” Guardian 20 July 15; is that the 2008/09 £1.2 trillion taxpayer bailout (£54,000 per UK household) was not nearly enough; and that banks have also lost all the credit balances of today’s savers. Separate out the ordinary depositors funds and the banks’ gambling arms will be revealed to be in serious debt; so the logic goes. Why wait till 2020; ring-fence these crazy transactions today. Will KPMG tell us how much more banks have lost - and who has gained?

BANKERS - WHY WE ARE FURIOUS

Barclays’ CEO Bob Diamond’s resignation and Chairman Marcus Agius’s back to the future un-resignation, refocus public questions about what needs fixing in The City and Wall Street; what have all those naughty boys and girls been up to? What cardinal sins have they committed?

FIDDLING THE BOOKS: Throughout history, bankers, brokers and local and national governments have created money; have printed and minted money; have created the wampum, paper, silver & gold Money-Economy; as a service to and lubricant for the Real-Economy (work & goods). The word “Dollar” comes from “Thaler” which were 16th Century “pieces of eight” minted for hundreds of years in silver mines in Bohemia (Czechoslovakia), Central Europe, (go to Transylvania and head north-west); eventually adopted as America’s coinage instead of Sterling (which demanded UK taxes). The abiding value of all currencies relies on public Confidence that in turn relies on the banks and governments issuing not too many (inflation) and not too few (depression) notes and coins (IOUs). The currency in circulation MUST accurately match the real goods and work done or being done, for the real value to society. This detailed minute to minute matching is what we pay The City their fantastic “rewards” for. They charge fees for their intermediary role with our IOUs (interest & charges). If and when The City fiddles the books – incontinently gambles with our currencies – gouges out barrow loads for themselves –  siphons off our currencies to tax-havens in ship-loads – stupidly relies on belief in magical powers such as “The Free Markets” instead of planning and concentrated intellect – then Faith and Confidence in the IOUs break down. ALL the Money-Economy bookkeepers must be ultra reliable. Their word must be their bond. They must not fiddle the books. But they now habitually do fiddle.

GLUTTONY:  All major organisations play a part in maintaining the Money-Economy. All senior executives must be as trustworthy as bankers ought to be. It was put to me last week by an otherwise intelligent executive that because Banks vitally fund governments – we challenge them at our peril. The funds that banks direct are not “their” money – it is our money. Currently banks only hold about 6% in capital – that is “their” share. The other 94% is ours. This is also true for all quoted companies. However, since the end of the era of honesty and responsibility in boardrooms, such as Lord Weinstock at GEC (a great company broken up and “monetised” for easier grand larceny), the Masters of the Universe, mediocrities elevated to boardrooms, have to their greedy delight found the safe left open. So they steal as much as they can, for as long as they can, as tax-free as they can. They concretise their “right” to steal by cross-appointing each other to key positions in their organisations. Once embedded, they drive down wages in the Real-Economy – and escalate their own “rewards”. They are insatiably greedy, sociopathic gluttons and are stealing jobs and our children’s futures, when we have trusted them to invest in the future of our communities. They need to be forcefully slimmed down.

GAMBLING: Gambling is a sickness. Gamblers are mentally ill people. They are relatively harmless when playing with themselves, among themselves – losing and winning each other’s homes, cash and clothes. They are relatively harmless having a punt on a horse-race, a spin on a roulette wheel, a bid in a poker game, or a dabble on the Lottery – playing between themselves. Gamblers tend to be good at arithmetic whereas most of us, over 90%, quail at numbers. The gamblers can therefore dazzle and impress the majority with their mental arithmetic. When they are licensed by our governments, inserted into our banks and unleashed to gamble with our money on vital commodities – currencies - energy, food, metals, air, shares – they dignify it as “Investment Banking”. Since Thatcher, they have been in seventh-heaven; not only gambling day and night on every crazy Index in the world – but taking no risk with their own money. Every penny they are paid and “win” adds to the public costs of those commodities. They claim short term “gains”, which no-one can check accurately, demand their “bonuses” – offshore of course – and when, like all gamblers, they inevitably lose everything, as in 2008/09 – we, the people are so dumb we pay their debts – and reinstate them at the heart of our Money-Economy, instead of locking them up in asylums. The extent of the madness is typified by the replacement, this year, of optic fibre connections in Wall Street, with wireless connections because – are you ready for this? –: the micro-second faster speed gives an advantage to computer “trading”. Sanity demands that all real trades should have to be (a) completed and physically delivered and (b) held for six-months. It is no wonder the world is getting mad at these crazed spivs and lunatics at the heart of our money systems.

CAPITALISM AND ENTREPRENEURS – I am a capitalist. For 40 years I have helped businesses and started and run my own. I admire the great self-made entrepreneurs like Bill Gates and Richard Branson and all the small entrepreneurs. They inspire humanity, they create structure, they direct effort and investment, they create jobs, they create sustainable wealth. It is the lunatics, parasites and tape-worms we have to expel – Now, this year! My grandchildren need sustainable jobs.

WHERE'S THE MONEY? - BACK-UP NOW!

As SEC and FSA authorities, The Media and The Fraud Squad investigate The City’s and Wall Street’s bad habits, and frame charges of False Accounting, Back-Duty-Tax and Fraudulent Conspiracy under existing laws, prior to recovering 30 years of “rewards” gouged out and siphoned off under False Pretences – the culprits will claim “The dog ate my homework” as they try to bury the records. Banks and listed companies, of course, have all their data backed up in nuclear hardened bunkers – and have back-ups to the back-ups. Yesterday, my telephone banking service identified a transaction in 1987, in less than a minute. The computer records are intact and on-line.

The authorities should today anticipate the pressures on main boards to Pervert The Course of Justice – and today make copies of the computer records.

Yesterday, a senior CFO confidently predicted “They will never be able trace the transactions”. But he is old, has difficulty re-setting his Casio Digital Watch and for 20 years has relied on his PA to work his PC. To delete or alter data, he would, if he was not the very soul of probity that he is, need to instruct IT managers with access to all the back-ups. Even if all the internal records were eaten by the dog, every transaction is mirrored externally, in the systems of suppliers, customers, mandatory-filings, audit-files and so on. They could quite easily be reconstructed by whizzy computer literate nerds and anoraks. Ask the Shade of Kenneth Lay and the living Bernard Madoff.
