OUT OF THE DEPTHS - ARMED RESPONSE

Coming soon to a city near you!

Chapter Twelve
Extract from OUT OF THE DEPTHS by Noel Hodson (see right-hand margin)

 New York, New York

Sociologists have reasoned that the birth and development of great artists, philosophers and inventors, such as the famous figures of the Renaissance in Europe, requires a critical-mass of population to educate, inspire and support them and to create a receptive environment in which their talents will flourish. In short – emergent genius needs to stand on the shoulders of giants of civilisation; giants who have created stability and prosperity, and who provide liberal, intelligent patronage of arts and science. Can we, without the critical-mass, from our tiny, shattered population, struggling for survival, organise society and find the wherewithal to nurture mankind’s next Renaissance?
Professor Martin Blackmoor, Dean of the University of London 2014.

80% of the World’s population lives on the coastal margin. If they suddenly retreated inland, utter chaos would ensue. Global Analyses of Populations and Physiography -1997

In America in New York State and New York City, the rising waters had disturbed the lives of twenty-million people. As in Europe, a large percentage of the population had died of Glacier ‘Flu, the indiscriminate killer pandemic. Long Island was mostly below water, the Statue of Liberty stood ankle deep in the ocean, battered by waves that on stormy days leapt up and disrespectfully doused her face. Fierce ‘Can-Do’ survivors had miraculously constructed floating wooden skirts around famously tall buildings; skirts that rose and fell on the tides providing safe landing and berthing for a myriad of small boats clustered at the feet, or rather knees, of Manhattan skyscrapers. The Hudson River made a conduit for the sea to invade inland, west of the Taconic Mountains. In the north, Lake Ontario rose as ocean waters reversed the flow of the Saint Lawrence Seaway, and flooded down the Mohawk River, cutting the State in half. The Atlantic water, fed by the Labrador Current, complete with immense icebergs as large as major mountains, direct from Greenland and the Artic Circle, was bitterly cold, giving rise to innumerable grim ironic jokes on the theme of “global warming.”

Like Londoners, millions of citizens had made for higher ground – of which, unlike London, there was plenty. And like London, the New York supply infrastructure, food, medical, fuel, sewage and water failed under the strain of the mass relocation and shorted-out electrical power. Like London, all these things could be fixed. But again like London, the experts and labour to make things work were in very short supply.

At first it seemed the smart money was on those who made it into the Appalachian Mountains and the Allegheny Plateau, rising in places as high as six-thousand-feet – for how could the ocean reach up there – and there was plenty of space, all the space they needed, for mankind and all the displaced farm animals. In theory the mountain dwelling refugees would be alright. A little of the old pioneering spirit – some rapid courses on farming and food production and those who survived the ‘flu would make it. They would pull through.

But, there were two additional buggeration factors that Londoners did not have to cope with. Firstly, it was now winter and it was unbelievably cold. It was hellishly cold. And it snowed heavily. It was so cold and wintry that it was far safer to stay indoors than to venture out to take care of cattle, sheep, pigs and poultry; particularly for amateur farmers, still dreaming of centrally heated penthouse apartments. So getting food was a very tough proposition. The distances to storage centres, abandoned supermarkets and the like could be very long – and fuel was now harder to come by. So foraging for food was often unsuccessful. Some isolated and unfit people simply died of hunger, marooned in snowdrifts or iced in to their cabins and mansions.

And secondly, most people were armed.

It was exactly for this type of emergency that American families had for many years fought to retain the God given right to own weapons. There was a gun for every man, woman and child in the States. There were limitless amounts of ammunition – enough to kill the whole population of the United States of America about three hundred times over. It was enthusiastically referred to as “Overkill”. The overkill capacity was a subject of excited urban-legends, particularly among the teenagers and young strong males – who were of course, like all those under forty-five, still immortal.

Militia and gun-school trained middle aged men and women also gloried in their skills with weapons. This is what they had trained for; what they had fantasised about; this was raw survival; so most people, on most foraging missions, were armed.  The armaments in some cases were spectacular. They were not limited to handguns or hunting rifles. Military weapons of awesome power had rapidly found their way from abandoned military camps and weapons stores into the surviving civilian population. Previously peaceful, mild mannered, suburban fathers and mothers, teenagers and grandparents raided village stores – in Humvees or Jeeps or giant 4x4 trucks – when they could still find fuel, and, while loading the entire contents of the shop into their vehicle - for who knew just what they might need in the future - another foraging party would appear, challenge the first group – and then wage war with automatic rifles firing dozens of armour penetrating rounds per second. Truck mounted machine guns were not uncommon, with grenade guns, bazookas, anti-tank missiles and every manner of lethal weapon.

Survivors of the floods, pestilence, grief and privation entered glorious battle in quiet mountain towns with fellow Americans, over frozen turkeys, pastry, hamburgers, potato fries, cola, warm jackets, blankets, flashlights, fuel and portable telecoms – and slaughtered each other incontinently. Even a slight wound, in the absence of good medicine, would often eventually be fatal. A siege mentality had developed, exacerbated by feuds between relocated city dwellers, toughing it out as survivalists in farming and mountain country. As in London, these people had also figured out how the deadly flu’ was transmitted – and feared any contact with their neighbours. Frightened of disease, guarding and concealing their stores of food and fuel and protecting their families’ lives, the nomadic settlers hid in the most remote houses, farmsteads and commercial buildings they could find – and listened.

And so the population was even more decreased and skills necessary for the maintenance of society became more and more scarce. All major facilities which stopped working – stayed out of commission. When, for example, well away from any sea-level effects, the giant hydro-electric turbines that made electricity for Hartford, Connecticut cut out, as they did on their normal maintenance sequence,  only one surviving engineer knew which buttons had to be pressed to switch them on again. But, he found a fault. It was a small fault but it shut down the mill-stream, the sluices through the dam and needed a team of three or four skilled engineers, for eight or ten hours, to correct it. He couldn’t muster a team; he tried to the point of exhaustion to do it himself – and failed. He bussed in his own family and instructed them what to do – but they lacked the physical strength and the engineering know-how. If he could find and direct six or seven strong men – he could fix the problem. But he couldn’t recruit a team and food and self-preservation became more pressing problems he had to attend to – so the generators stayed silent.  And so, as in London, the last survivors clung on to the margins of civilisation by foraging and by inventive DiY. A group did, however, take up residence in the Empire State Building and started to tackle the telecommunications, determined to hook into the global satellite network.

BISHOPS - GAY - FEMALE?

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS
Thou Shalt Not...

AMAZING NEWS UPDATE - IS THIS THE END OF DAYS?

  1. Church of England General Synod backs women bishops

    www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-28300618

2 mins ago - The General Synod of the Church of England votes to allow women to become bishops for first time in its history, after years of debate and ...

We humans get a very raw deal on sex. We are the only large animal to be priapically primed, after puberty, at any moment; engorged at all times with all the mating instincts of bull seals on a beach full of shining beauties and of rabbits on heat; yet constrained at all times by self-consciousness (that damned Apple in Eden) and our communal sexual morality.

Christian Bishops, especially homosexual Bishops (women can be “homo”sexual too – and be Bishops – but that’s a thorny bramble patch not to blunder into here), have a particularly hard path to tread.

Sex is obscured and dodged around by word mazes of a thousand double-entendres, rhyming slang and a million puns, in all languages, created to avoid outright vulgarity and to calm passions. If you ask knowledgeable religionists about the written authorities for rules of sexual behaviour, they will mislead you into other, Jesuitical, incomprehensible mazes, which rarely, if ever, mention the sex act – or acts. It is all very confusing, especially for Christian Bishops. After my sixteen years of daily religious Catholic studies, the only relevant thundering Biblical phrase in my memory is that “it”, whatever “it” is, is an ABOMINATION. And it will make you blind and deaf.

So, before tackling Abominable Bishops, let’s clear the air and plumb the depths. Our conflicted love and horror of sex is based on our innate animal drives to procreate, and we are peculiarly blessed or cursed, by God, with very pleasurable sensory genitalia and erogenous zones. These are best stimulated by a partner – in the same way that we cannot tickle ourselves but can be tickled by another. We have evolved or are designed to fall in Love.

We love the sensuousness but we are also terrified by the intimacy of sex – letting down our guard, being bamboozled, being caught without our trousers or knickers, or, like spiders, being eaten by our mate.

Our primate and religious sexual morals, which are also a blessing and a curse, are firstly, essentially based on paternity – Who is the Daddy? – Who has to rear the Child? – Who inherits the Farm? – Who is the Cuckold?

Even the chest-beating, dominant male imperative “Get off my Woman or Women!” is based on paternity, on Dawkin’s selfish genes, and on a thick layer of raging sexual jealously – “Is he, she or they enjoying it more than I do?”  and “How can I find out?” which is where our prurience and curiosity comes from.

This prurience, the prying into how others “do it”, and our drive to do it with as many attractive partners as possible, but without being beaten to death by dominant males or females, takes us, particularly we males, into pornography and Rupert Murdoch’s Page Three of The Sun; where we can safely ogle and fantasise about completely unattainable, unreal, pneumatic, idealised, sensuous partners without being clubbed to death by their powerful mates. For as little as $1 a day, lonely Wimps can be safely self sated via newsprint – and women can cast an inquisitive, beady eye over the surgically enhanced competition.  Females, for reasons I cannot fathom, are more likely to dive into the painful fantasies of Fifty Shades of Grey, or as Victoria Wood sings  it “…Beat me on the Bottom, with the Woman's Weekly.”

Secondly, our ancient, religious morality is soundly based in health issues. This is also built into our instincts as the Yuk! factor that all humans share.  All sex acts, however carefully performed, involve the exchange of precious bodily fluids. Once the love, passion, flush, glow and pulsating tumescence have diminished these fluids can be experienced as a sticky, tacky mess. We are here about to descend into lavatorial and even bestial realms – so delicate and sensitive readers should look away - now.

Sex can and does spread our unique DNA, our genes – and disease.  In my youth, we were dismayed and discouraged from The Joy of Sex by graphically horrible public posters of venereal diseases, VD. Once contracted these dreadful bacteria and viruses rotted ones privy parts, nose, jaw and face – and could only be cured, it was rumoured behind the bicycle sheds, by the most painful, tortuous and lengthy regimes that included scraping one’s inner and sensitive tubes with small metal umbrellas, cruelly rammed up and wrenched out to cut away the boils and pustules of illicit sex. The Joy of Sex came later, with the Sixties Revolution, reliant on the Contraceptive Pill; before which teenagers relied, utterly unreliably, on premature withdrawal or on extremely embarrassing to buy rubber-products. Some well prepared youths carried a single unused rubber Durex contraceptive, in their wallets, next to their ever optimistic, fast beating hearts, for many unsatisfactory years. A few, sad ‘50s Teddy Boys still have them.

After the apparently disease and sin free sixties, came that vengeful punishment from the Old Testament God, AIDS. When USA patient ZERO had been allegedly identified and AIDS was traced back to originating in chimpanzees in the Congo, comedienne Joan Rivers thoughtfully posed the burning question: “Who f****d the monkey?”. Which neatly brings us to the religious interdiction on bestiality, which is clearly not a good idea but, if you must do it, do avoid hedgehogs and porcupines.

To recap, our sexual mores are based on who fathered the child; who is enjoying sex more than me; and how to avoid unpleasant and fatal diseases.

To persuade pre-history tribes of the downside of overly liberal sex, the wise elders imposed an All Seeing God, Sin, Retribution, Hell and Burning at the Stake. The sensible sexual social precautions of early man and woman, to avoid incest, cuckolding the Chieftain, paedophilia, necrophilia, bestiality and Page Three, became distorted over millennia into the tangled, insane rules trotted out by clergy, of all persuasions, without explanation, today.

Now here is a secret – God is far too busy keeping the billion, billion, billion stars, galaxies and planets in the firmament, some of them 124,882,560,000,000,000,000 km distant, in their orbits, to be concerned with what we 7,000,000,000 humans are doing with the sensitive bits of our anatomies, on a day to day basis, for a minuscule period of our risibly short existence in His or Her Universe. The average human indulges in sexual practices for 0.3% of our usually harassed time on Earth. God does not define what we do sexually as sinful or as graceful – any more than defining whether shells on spawning coral reefs are behaving well or badly. ALL such definitions and classifications are human inventions; most of them are insane.

And so, at last, back to sexy Bishops.

To date, in written history, most high ranking clergy have been men. This came from the lusty male sexual madness set out above. Men are generally bigger than women, have a natural urge to possess a harem of women and thus feel that they, the men, ought to be ranked higher than the women – regardless of IQ. This also happens in troupes of monkeys and herds of cattle. So, from our primitive misogyny (hatred of women, which, oddly, many women approve) most positions of power were held by men; including Bishoprics.

Due to the sexual vetoes allegedly erroneously issued in confusion by men with beards, seven thousand years ago, Christian Bishops and clergy of two thousand years ago, give or take a few hundred years and Convocations, decided to back away from the whole bewildering moral maze – and be celibate; to give up sex altogether; to abandon the 0.3% time of sensuality which comes with so many onerous caveats, sticky fluids and health and societal risks. If only it had stayed like that – but, a German reformer, Martin Luther, inspired the breakaway, protesting, Protestant Church, which in time allowed Bishops to take wives and have a bit of sex – but only in the missionary position.  Following this holy heterosexual liberation (men and women) has recently emerged homosexual liberation (men with men, women with women) and we don’t know if it will stop there.

The sexually suppressed and controlled masses, exposed on the one hand to Mr Murdoch’s Page Three girls, and elsewhere to prancing boys; and on the other hand to fearsome, frowning bearded, be-sandaled, puritanical prophets, naturally have become deeply curious about “What Bishops do in Bed” an envious prurience not confined to the great unwashed plebiscite, but now washing across all levels of the clergy. The Christian laity and clergy have become even more obsessed by what happens in other people’s bedrooms – and whether, if they have the temerity to enjoy it, they go to Heaven or Hell.

But, I repeat, if you harm no-one, God really, really, really does not mind what you, they or anyone does with their private parts. It is a purely human health and social matter. He or She or They are NOT watching. But your government, neighbours’ webcams and IT trackers almost certainly are.

It is tough enough just living, dying and being human. Let’s leave the poor old Bishops in peace to do what they want in their own bedrooms.

TAX – TWO SETS OF BOOKS - JAIL

Al Capone was jailed for tax fraud,
not for smuggling alcohol, extortion and murder.
What have these persons in common? Depardieu, The Lagarde-Greek List, HSBC Zurich, Wegelin, HNWIs, David Cameron, Margaret Thatcher, Arthur Andersen, Jimmy Carr, Dave Hartnett, BBC Presenters, Barclays, and a few million other honourable global citizens. They all play a part in the global tax war. Some will come to a sorry and expensive end.

From 1960 my accountancy firms carefully and cautiously advised clients on reducing tax by detailed, legitimate and proper use of regional tax-laws and incentives.  I have worked in Switzerland; advised several thousand SME Start-Ups, factoring tax into their cash-flows; and have advised major employers with executives in Europe and America. I have personally wrestled with tax collectors in many back-duty-tax-settlements. For the past ten years I have generally advised clients to “move to higher ground” and to “move your money on-shore”.

Today, the merry media, many younger lawyers and accountants, most CFO’s of multi-nationals and many small business owners have been misled, by the government led global tax-rates race-to-the-bottom and consequent incredible official relaxation on taxing defaulters, into treating tax fraud as a game. It is not. It gets very serious.

Long professional observation and the past few years of listening to cocktail hour gossip leads me to conclude that globally just about everybody who is anybody in business has been dangerously lulled into keeping two sets of books – and believing, or hoping, it is legal.  Starbucks is now a public example: the US Head Office books allegedly show fat profits from the UK while the UK tax returns show almost no taxable profits on robust turnover. Spot the money siphons!

Many businesses, of all sizes, making large commercial profits in high tax-rate regions, pretend to have commercial operations in tax-havens, which if real would require large staffs and overheads; and they “create” false invoices and agreements that strip out the taxable profits.

Leona Hemsley
Hotel owner, New York.
"Only little people pay tax".
Jailed for tax fraud.
The commercial books, recording the actual profits are distorted by such “Enron Accounting” invoices, which are approved by the internal and external auditors, board and lawyers. This complicity turns false-accounting into fraudulent-conspiracy; both are crimes.  Because there are many rich executive hands and heads engaged in creating the false-accounts, the perpetrators puff up a complex great storm of pompous self-referential “legality” and spread their disinformation within their companies and to the global media. “We are stealing all the cakes …but we are doing it legally”.

Q - Why will this change after 30 years of habitual unchallenged tax fraud? A - Because, there is now an estimated $21 trillion buried in tax havens. This is wrecking the global economy.

The $21 trillion is all the liquidity of the world’s gross product, our daily work, since 1980, at about 1% of the total we have produced. It is the loss of the $21 trillion that has plunged most countries into debt; has shut down new capital for infrastructure and small businesses; and necessitated the current budget cuts in many developed countries; all bringing higher unemployment. The secretive “owners” of the $21 trillion clearly don’t need it – and they are too timid to invest it back into the communities it came from. Capital has gone on strike.

Of the $21 trillion, I guess that about $2 trillion is British, about $10 trillion is American, about $2 trillion is organised crime and $7 trillion has been gouged from the other main economies. Identifying the off-shore assets, raising “protective tax assessments” (i.e. prove that these assets have been properly taxed – or pay up) and wresting the assets from unwilling “owners” by confiscation, is now in process, worldwide.

The sleeping giant – not China but the world’s supine tax collectors – is awakening. Tax collectors have all the legal powers required to slap in protective assessments for, say, the past 30 years. These will include the original tax, compound interest on unpaid tax, tax on the yearly off-shore income from the capital, plus compound interest on that element, tax evasion penalties that are usually the original tax again – and possible prison sentences for fraudulent accounting (keeping two sets of books).  If the “owners” cannot be traced, the assets will be impounded by one or more national treasuries; on a first come first served basis.

Whatever The British Prime Minister, The American President, Billionaire Leaders of Multinational Corporations, Ex-Pats in Monte Carlo, Liechtenstein, Malta, Bermuda, Isle of Man, Channel Islands, The Caribbean, Panama, Andorra, Switzerland (various Cantons), Delaware, The Far East, the Middle East, Dublin Tax Free Zone and, of course, Central London – all say or might say; the 100 year old laws giving power to tax collectors have not been rescinded in the past 30 years, or even the past 100 years, and irrespective of “special deals” offered after free vacations in Monte Carlo, pretend  Main Board Meetings of listed companies on Rockall, and “Tax Amnesty’s” for declaring tax-haven income, those unexplained assets will be taxed – and all those “funny money” tax-deductible invoices, previously nodded through by somnolent tax collectors, will be retrospectively denied.

The World cannot afford to not repatriate the tax-haven $21 trillion, which is growing by $1 trillion a year. 2013 will be a bumper year for back-duty-tax-cases.

Best advice: 20 years after WW2, UK traders who had made fortunes on the black market were still being pursued by narrow eyed tax investigators; the famous, huge White £5 notes were cancelled as legal tender, obliging hoarders to exchange them, and explain them.  A tired old rogue client locked his doors, bought an excellent bottle of scotch, sat by his fireplace and fed a suitcase full of White Fivers into the flames. That is one way to dispose of the problem and threat of prison in old age.  Not quite as wasteful, is to bring your assets back onshore, pay the taxes and quit dodging. Bureaucracy never tires; we humans do.

If you do go to prison for false accounting or fraudulent conspiracy after failing to convince a jury that a one man office in Brussels, open half a day a week, really does have legal “arms-length” rights to charge $3 Royalty on every cup of full-fat coffee served – or that a brass-plaque pinned on 3 square metres of office in Jersey (which you, honestly, have no control over) really does commercially justify a 200% mark up on shoes made in Korea, or that a wicker chair under a Cayman Island palm tree really is the location of a Global Mergers and Acquisition agency that can commercially, with no prime intention of tax-reduction, bung a $1.5 billion, tax deductible invoice to your camera making empire; then at least earn the deep satisfaction of dragging your sloppy, lazy, frivolous tax-advisers with you into jail.

And remember – seriously, that all good tax-planners and auditors do guarantee their schemes and are covered by their Professional Indemnity Insurance.

FORECASTS FROM 2013

FUTURE FORECASTS FOR 2013.

In keeping with our title, Future Fact and Fiction, here are some glimpses into the near and medium term future. Note that we are at the beginning of The Electronic Revolution; more powerful than the Industrial Revolution – and that everything is changing very fast. We are evolving from identifying with and trusting people of our own families, tribes, settlements, villages, towns, shires, countries and latterly continents – to intelligent global cooperation. These old trusted groupings are “gangs” and gangster politics and economics have governed all human affairs for 10 thousand years, or more. That primate system is changing.

GLOBAL WARMING AND ENERGY:
There is today enough extra heat in the Earth’s atmosphere to melt the Polar Ice Caps. As forecast by climate scientists for the past 20 years, all regions are now experiencing and will continue to experience extreme weather events.  By 2033 (20 years) the sea-level will rise by several metres, flooding coastal regions. Saturated highlands will flood from higher rainfall; deserts will get even drier. Migrate to higher ground, stay mobile, and learn to pray. There are sufficient hills, plateaux and mountains to accommodate us all; but the transition will be difficult. Holland is building floating homes – these will lead to large floating cities.

Transport systems will change rapidly. The Foodtubes Project will be adopted globally, saving up to 16% of today’s transport energy.

Eventually, even the most stupid of our leaders will recognise that further global-warming, runaway global heating, would wipe out the human race and most of today’s life-forms.  Clean, green, lean energy production will replace burning fossil fuels and other dirty stuff. This change has started and will accelerate.

GLOBAL ECONOMY:
We are just waking up to the inescapable fact that the World’s economy is interdependent; which is increasingly apparent due to our ever growing population. We are also learning that as presently defined one person’s profit is always another’s cost. The Internet is shining bright light into all the dark corners of our present day “gangster economy”, where mutually cooperative bands of whooping primates enclose themselves in “private” corporations to exploit and rob their neighbours. This primitive, warlike model will rapidly (within 20 years) change to “intelligent cooperation” – due to increasing Internet data, greater self-awareness, population growth and sea-level rise.

GLOBAL MONEY-ECONOMY NATIONALISED:
The existing, silly, government and private-banking system that licenses gangs of get-rich-kwik spivs and bent bookkeepers to print money, create credit, trade currencies, gamble with customers’ assets, corner commodities, periodically steal all the global liquidity, bury $21 trillion of our cash in their tax-havens and persistently sabotage the work and efforts of the entire global community – all by fiddling the paperwork or electronic debits and credits – will be globally nationalised within 5 years. Sanity will bring the end of the first, primitive ten-thousand years of (false) accounting; and of mega-theft of the products of the Real-Economy. Big-Blue, IBM, that supplies 80% of the world’s banking computers and systems, will be pressed into serving the whole world and creating a reliable, cheap, safe, global money-system. A single world currency will be the common tender, the new bookkeeping system, within 20 years.

DEMOCRACY AND REFERENDUM POLITICS:
Democracy is often defined as the least bad system of social governance. In most regions it polarises, divides into two Parties, and declines into gangs of loyal, compliant “professional” career politicians, orbiting large, fixed nuclei of career civil servants, who in turn are bribed, beaten and bamboozled by the media, pressure groups and lobbyists. The career politicians are beaten into toeing the narrow and religious Party line, whatever their local voters want or need. Within 5 years, following hot on the heels of the now reliable technology that enables audiences to vote on TV Game Shows, in regions where such voting has been deployed, perverted, defrauded and then corrected and re-tested, voters will be asked to vote on Issues not Personalities. The politicians’ will gain free-vote independent status and become presenters and tutors of the Issues; voter testing will be created to ensure Votes-with-Knowledge, and the venerable gangster Party system will be replaced by Referendum Politics (REFER).  Refer initiatives will predominate in democratic regions currently threatened with chaos through the malfunction of democracy – such as in Greece. President Obama, having demonstrably mastered popular Internet communications and fund-raising, is in an ideal position to kick-start REFER.

E-voting will inevitably lead to globally agreed and applied laws; give it 50 years to get to the first version of The Global Constitution.

WE HAVE WORKED HARD TO ABOLISH WORK AND HAVE SUCCEEDED:
It probably is not apparent to those who trudge daily to their jobs in Burger Bars, Coffee Shops, Retail Outlets and Local Government Offices that they no longer are doing necessity work – compared to their great grandparents. Even the brave armed forces are wrapped in cotton wool compared to the thousands and millions who were slaughtered in past wars. In the Industrial Revolution, a typical 12 year old worked 6 days a week on 12 hour shifts, 52 weeks of the year – in dark satanic mills, coal mines, warships, fields, docks and building roads and railways. Their life expectancy was 34 years. Hard labour killed them. That was “necessity” work – which built our modern economy (which the evil 1% steal from us).

Now, in a world where even Inuit Eskimos have rifles, snowmobiles and I-Phones, what is regarded as work – say 30 hours a week (18% of our time) in a warm, dry shop selling clothes to pleasant, honest and healthy customers – is not what our forefathers and foremothers would think of as work. Within 20 years, most “work” will have been automated and the human race will be casting around for things to fill their time and ever lengthening lifetimes. The most likely occupation we will take up is Life-Time (life long) Learning. We will educate ourselves and engage in “hobbies” – many of which will prove to be useful research, innovative and world changing. Such lifelong learning is forecast to be the largest single “content” of the Internet; so get your fill of Disney and Spielberg  adventure movies before you cast off your anorak and are gripped by Physics, Philosophy, Mathematics, Engineering, Exploration or some other middle-class pursuit – for life.

E-INFORMATION OVERLOAD:

Global Social Networking Sites will evaporate, starting in the next 5 years. About 2 billion of the 7 billion Earthlings have Internet Access today. When we are all on Facebook, Twitter, Linked-In, Plaxo, etc, such “memberships” will be of no more personal use than loitering in Piccadilly Circus (London) and saying “Hi” to every passer-by. Networks will evolve into passive Directories of personal websites; most of which will only be updated every few years. Smaller, specialist interest E-groups will persist. Face-to-Face groups such as The Royal Society will continue as before.

The Consumer Society will get bored with marketing and endless trivial consumption. We 7 billion Earthlings are subjected to an ever increasing barrage of marketing messages, of ever greater sophistication and stimulation, for ever more useless trivia. This is already an irritant to people in developed nations and the developing nations will follow and be irritated. Within the next decade, sales of all consumer goods, including of foodstuffs, will decline. Jaded and saturated appetites will return to minimalist, necessary consumption. Within 5 years, people will cease to panic-buy floral design, scented, pink, super-soft lavatory rolls. Praise the Lord.

GUN CONTROL:
Suitable lunatic asylums will be built, like Safari Parks, where armed private citizens can enter voluntarily, roam freely and shoot each other without legal consequences. It will take about 10 years before they are all dead.

HIGGS BOSON AND PARTICLE PHYSICS
It is just about 100 years since the current Standard Model of atoms and particles was envisaged and defined. The Higgs Boson is one of the many missing pieces from this most complex of all jigsaw puzzles. Within 5 years, entirely different propositions and theories will be published, funded and explored to explain how the Universe works. The new models will offer to explain Gravity, Dark Matter, Dark Energy and the organising Lifeforce. I guess that electricity will be given a far greater and wider role in the story. It will take many minds many centuries to create a new Standard Model – and then science might have a reliable foundation from which to start afresh.

CHRISTMAS IS REAL MAGIC

REAL HUMAN MAGIC
1 DEC 2016 - Guardian News of a large trial on terminal cancer patients finds that a single dose of magic mushroom psilocybin brings relief for 6 months. It removes the fear of death and depression, bringing spiritual insight.

No wonder that Big Pharma and heavily lobbied (bribed) governments ban these natural, free psychedelic substances - that mankind has used for hundreds of thousands of years. Killer tobacco and alcohol are of course exempt from drug bans.

Father Christmas prefers the pretty red and white mushrooms that enable him to fly. (Below)

SEE THE FUTURE - 2017 & 2516

For this Christmas, treat yourself and your friends to a good long magical read. See the Future. Buy my Global Warming novels.
https://noelhodsonscifi.com/ & see right margin for Christmas. You will really enjoy them.

Christmas has many magical meanings of great importance and of hope for the human race. ‘Magical’ knowledge emerges from our imaginations, from our extraordinary ability to visualise and conjure up tangible and abstract, ephemeral and even invisible things – and thus to magically invent universal models, music, medicine, microchips and motors. If we lose our magic – our race will decline and die away.

But, we survived the Mayan's 2012 doomsday and we will probably live to enjoy perhaps millions more Christmases. Mayan THE END OF DAYS

In the beginning, once upon a time, Christmas was, and is, the Midwinter Solstice of the Northern Hemisphere – which means it is the shortest day and longest night, on the 20th-21st December, with a Full Moon on the 28th December; after which days lengthen - heralding the eventual coming and growth of spring – the renewal of life and its perpetual continuation.

In the Southern Hemisphere the shortest day is in June. Europeans and Asians took the northern festival dates south of the equator and around the world. As the longest, coldest night passed, a tribe could assess if their food would last – and feast on stores that would otherwise spoil – the Christmas Feast.

The secrets, songs and sacred myths of Christmas are deep folk memories of real, evolutionary events, which we have woven into archetypal stories to better remember and understand them. It is not a recent creation of Disney, Hollywood and Bing Crosby.

The great festival of good tidings comes from our memories of glittering ice, snow, cold, clear skies and survival – probably from as far back as the ice-ages – which cover most of the Earth about every nine-thousand years, scour it clean and then recede back to the Poles – and let us warm up, and maybe further evolve, for a while. Our shared human unconscious and genes are now thought to date back more than five-million years – or five-hundred waxing and waning ice-ages through which we have survived, thrived and evolved. Our long-body, back to Adam and Eve, carries the marks of those millennia.

Every new baby is born with all the genetic records generated through the Ice-Ages, from the beginning of Time and intuitively has knowledge of our species, the Earth and the Universe – from which it comes. One gram of the baby’s DNA can digitally record all the E-information of all our global activities for an entire year – Harvard Medical School encoded a “DNA” book to prove it, earlier this year. Isn’t that magical? And it illustrates how the baby can effortlessly be carrying the entire history of the whole human race in its very essence.  DNA STORES YOUR LIFE

It is little wonder that the Jews prophesised the Messiah as a newborn – who would miraculously save the world. All babies are potential Saviours and perhaps wise people can spot the exceptional new arrivals. And thus the Old Testament mythological prophesy was fulfilled when Jesus (Joshua, Yahshua, God-Saves) was born, in a stable, in Bethlehem, two-thousand-and-twelve years ago, under a clear, cold sky, marked by a new brilliant star. The Gospel “Christ” is Greek for “Anointed One” from “chrism” or oil – the blessed ceremonial oil of Jewish Temples. And, Yes, it does snow in Israel, so the Christmas crib scenes are not impossible depictions. It was indeed a miracle of life and creation; which magically triggered the imaginations of the hundreds of millions of people who now are Christians. Christ was and is one of the world’s “Great Souls”.  At Christmas, we celebrate his miraculous birth and wondrous potential.  Hollywood did not invent Him.

Nor did Hollywood invent Santa Clause, Saint Nicholas, Father Christmas and his distinctive RED costume and white beard. This bringer of gifts; this generous and magical spirit; this flying spirit with magic reindeer; who enters all homes via the chimney – dates back at least to 255AD in Patra, now in Turkey, being an aristocrat or a Bishop, wearing a red cloak and giving presents; and, particularly in Norse Mythology, can be re-discovered as an archetypal figure back in the mists of pre-history.

The explanation that I most like is that Northern families in the forests of the Tundra used to survive winter by digging six-foot (2 metre) pits in which they erected Yurts (round tents of skins and wadded wool). The pits provided warmth and secure windproof earthen walls to ward off wolves and bears. Each Yurt was entered through a roof-hole that let out the smoke, thus it was a chimney, with a ladder down to the floor. Here the family would live out the freezing months. The further north they were, the longer and darker the nights.

But, not everyone was immobilised by the snow and ice.

THERE ARE OTHER CHRISTMAS
THEORIES. DON'T EAT MAGIC
MUSHROOMS - THEY MIGHT KILL.
Shamans or Medicine Men, Wizards, Warlocks or Magicians visited the Yurts, relying on hospitality for shelter. These wise wanderers brought artefacts, gossip, news and sagas. They told Tales for their suppers. They entered the Yurts down the chimneys. For magic – they brought narcotic and hallucinogen brews that induced marvellous dreams. One brew was made from particular mushrooms (do NOT try this at home) with white dotted red tops – which are very poisonous to people, but the Shamans knew that reindeer sought out the mushrooms, ate them, got very high and later pissed out the drug. The reindeer’s piss was collected (most tribes had herds of reindeer) processed and drunk by the people – who hallucinated that they were flying. It fired imagination and helped to pass many an otherwise uneventful, dreary evening without television.  And gave rise to all the familiar Christmas stories of Santa flying through the snowy, dark skies on a present laden sleigh, pulled by reindeer.

Psilocybin mushrooms, also known as psychedelic mushrooms, are mushrooms that contain the psychedeliccompounds psilocybin and psilocin. Common colloquial terms include magic mushrooms and shrooms.[1] They are used mainly as an entheogen and recreational drug whose effects can include euphoriaaltered thinking processes, closed and open-eye visuals, synesthesia, an altered sense of time and spiritual experiences. Biological genera containing psilocybin mushrooms include CopelandiaGalerinaGymnopilusInocybeMycenaPanaeolusPholiotinaPluteus, and Psilocybe. Over 100 species are classified in the genus Psilocybe.
Psilocybin mushrooms may have been used since prehistoric times. They are possibly depicted in Stone Age rock art in Europe and Africa, and have a history of use in pre-Columbian Mesoamerica. Many cultures have used these mushrooms in their religious rites and ceremonies[citation needed]

(& see right margin) for Christmas. You will really enjoy them.

Christmas celebrates new beginnings, birth and hope. But our blessed or cursed intelligence and communications make us aware of terrible events and of our own inevitable mortality. But hang on! Despite the agonising traumas many suffer, the world is evolving towards intelligent co-operation and shared sanity. Peace and Goodwill are the dominant human forces.
Have a Happy and a Holy Christmas with great hope for the New Year and our future.
