The Transport Internet™ and Foodtubes™ Discussion led by Noel Hodson

We hope to have a lively discussion today, so I will set out the outline of this new freight system in 20 minutes – Dave Wetzel will outline the impact on London, if the system is installed here, and Fred Taylor will contribute technical information during the general discussion.

The Transport Internet™ is first and foremost a pollution free, Green technology; to reduce Global Warming gases and help slow Climate Change. It is also highly efficient and is profitable. If developed here, it will create 60,000 UK jobs; and help the human race to have more time to adapt to Global Warming.

I confess to having been an accountant from the age of 17; so my instinctive approach to projects is via business forecasts. I worked on transport statistics for more than ten years, to reduce commuting to work and business travel; by working from home by computer – Teleworking – working at a distance;  or, in America, Telecommuting – commuting at a distance.

The promotion of Teleworking, from 1987 to date – has been successful. Today - About 12% of people work at home by computer on any one work day and most of us use laptops & mobiles to be location-free. My last fee for advising a major employer on The Economics of Telework, was in 2003 – from the World Health Organisation in Geneva – shortly after drafting Telework Guidelines for Transport for London, who employ 1,000+ desk workers in Victoria Street, Westminster.
Employers no longer need Telework Consultants, so I turned my attention to reducing freight traffic – and came up with the – The Transport Internet™. Fred Taylor took the concept and made it a practical engineering proposition.

The Transport Internet™ & Foodtubes™ will carry Food and Other Goods.

We have focussed on Food because after Water, food is the next heaviest, necessary, daily cargo. We all have to eat – and the food has to be transported from farm to plate. The water we use is 120 times heavier than the food we cart home from shops. Also, focusing on food – or in its broader context – on Supermarket goods, is helped by the global statistics on food transport. One of the facts that emerge from the mass of data is that 25% of all freight vehicles carry food – or supermarket goods. Some studies show that 30% of all freight vehicles are engaged on food deliveries.

In our calculations we add “Other Suitable Goods” – non-food goods for homes, factories, colleges, and so on; which with food, replaces 50% of the freight vehicles travelling on our roads and rails – and via our airports and seaports. The other half carry goods that are too large to fit into the Cargo-Capsules; such as sofas, armchairs and double beds.

But – if you can imagine London streets with half the number of vans and lorries – and imagine Dover with half the number of freight vehicles crossing the Channel, as our pipelines will also be installed under seas, you will start to see some of the advantages of The Transport Internet™.
The engineering principles are based on Minimum Weight Vehicles (MWVs).
Let’s consider the water we each use. A bath-full of water is very heavy – it comes in clean – goes out grey – and is transported by pipelines. IF, IF… all our water were to be delivered and taken away by trucks; every road, worldwide, would be gridlocked. The delivery trucks would weigh many times their cargoes – would also carry heavy loads of diesel fuel – and need large drivers, munching hedgehog sandwiches.

After a month or two of such chaos and waste of energy – some bright engineer would invent pipelines. Fortunately, mankind invented the water pipeline before the internal combustion engine – about 5,000 years before.

The engineering questions are – “What are we trying to transport? And what is the most efficient vehicle?” It comes down to the parcel-to-vehicle weight ratio. For water – we convert the entire

transport infrastructure of iron trucks, noisy engines, metalled roads, railways, signals, police, loveable parking wardens, fuel supplies – and hedgehog eating drivers – into pipelines. Mankind transports only the goods we want. We do this at very low cost, silently and invisibly.

Mankind has done the same with gas and oil. The world has a million kilometres of large diameter pipelines. These pipes are installed in all regions – over-ground, underground, through mountains, deserts and wilderness, through cities and under oceans. Our civilisation would collapse without these silently flowing cargoes.

The Transport Internet™ applies the same pipeline principles to Food supplies. It is a pipeline system for dry goods. It uses only 8% of the energy currently used to transport our food (and other goods). 92% of the diesel or energy used now for this transport, today, is not used to move the cargoes, but to move the vehicles – lorries, vans, trains, ships and planes.
Pipelines have been around for 5,000 years – pneumatic powered capsules date back to about 1850. In this project we considered but abandoned the cast iron, steam and huffing and puffing of glorious Victorian engineering – “The great iron horse that crosses the prairies” in favour of lightweight electricity and 21st century software.

When we first assembled the Foodtubes Team, in 2005, we focused on pneumatic powered capsules running through the pipelines, picturing larger version of the 6 inch or 31 cm wide air driven capsules that still whizz around some stores – recently revived to shuttle documents around banks.

However, pneumatics require valves, pumps, gates and many moving parts, and will not work well on the scale envisioned for The Transport Internet™.  Instead we immobilised the power source and made it part of the pipeline infrastructure by embedding the drive coils for a Linear Induction Motor between the rails in the pipes on which the capsules run. The skeleton of the capsules are rectangular boxes measuring 1 x 1 x 2 metres and sit on wheeled bogies which remain on the rails while the cargo is loaded or unloaded. The soft-iron or other magnetic material plate that forms the other half of the LIM is incorporated into the bogie. The capsule cases are likely to be customised for major users e.g. such as TESCO.

Network control software is used to track the position and speed of every capsule with high precision and to apply the power to the LIMS as required. Additional coils are located at junctions, including sidings at each loading or delivery location, to steer the capsules with no moving parts or points in the rails. The boxes containing the goods are simple and inexpensive and are loaded and unloaded automatically by robots at high speed before returning the capsule to the circuit.
The LIMs we will use are about the size of a briefcase.

Like pneumatics, LIMs also date back to Victorian times. Encased in resin, they are the first solid state electronics – wholly reliable – in use safely all over the world. Currently they are being tested by the US to launch planes off aircraft carriers. Terminal 5 Heathrow uses them to cart luggage round its system. There are thousands of LIMs used in Disneyworld and other fairgrounds.
The LIMs enable our cargo-capsules to have no engines, no internal propulsion at all. The cargo-capsules are therefore ultra-lightweight vehicles - MWVs. The capsules can be made of fibre-glass, carbon fibre, aluminium and other lightweight materials.

Even carrying quarry stone, the large diameter pipelines will last 100 years before major overhaul (Dr Jonathan Carter – Imperial College Engineering – 2009). In forecasts we assume a 50 year life.
The pipes can be made of concrete, steel, iron, or, our preference – from polyethylene. Polyethylene has been proven for decades in the water, oil and gas pipeline industries. It is not only easy to install polyethylene pipes using no-dig-technology (no open trenches in the streets above) but burying polyethylene, made from oil, also sequesters or stores carbon and helps to combat climate change gases.

Many non-engineers cannot imagine how The Transport Internet™ pipelines could be installed to serve, say the whole of Greater London - and eventually the world. The concept is too large to easily envisage. But installation – and the resulting commercial factors – is broken down into bite sized civil-engineering and financeable chunks.

http://www.noelhodson.com/index_files/Foodtubes-pipelaying-1dec09.pdf

A typical Dense-Urban Circuit is installed as a 100 km loop or circuit, costing $4M per km; mostly underground for security and aesthetic reasons, with 400 Terminals – entrances and exits. The cargo-capsules all travel in the same direction, returning empty capsules to their base stations free of charge. Imagine a circuit installed in Croydon, London – with 130,000 homes to feed (via the shops) – it will take 1,400 food & general goods vehicles per day off the streets – and so relieve Croydon’s chronic gridlocks. The Croydon Circuit will run from a cargo-transfer depot on the M25. It will cost about $400 million and make $60 million profit a year.

For several reasons – installation, loading, handling, tracking etc. we currently plan for the pipelines to be 1.5 metres in diameter – with capsules varying in length up to 2 metres – about the size of a large man - and having a lesser diameter - for wiggle room – room to negotiate junctions, bends and inclines. Specialised capsules will include ones that are refrigerated, shorter (to climb tall buildings and be easily handled), transparent for visual inspection; and ones for dirty or dangerous cargoes. Very specialised capsules, Pipeline Inspection Gauges – PIGS, as used in the pipeline industry, will be equipped to deal with engineering and blockage problems. Our current commercial plan also budgets for maintenance shafts from the surface.

A Typical-Circuit might then be installed in the next district, say in Richmond, similarly of 100 km, and the two circuits will be interlinked.

Because there are no valves, doors or barriers, cargo-capsules can run freely through both circuits. The wider effect – say for Greater London – is like a honeycomb of Typical Circuits.  For long distance travel – say, London to Manchester – elongated loops will be installed. Eventually a loaded capsule could be sent from Cape Town to Edinburgh with no human intervention. Speeds will vary from as low as 5km per hour in very dense networks – to 150km per hour on long connecting runs.
Dense Urban circuits, where there are many thousands of homes – are both the most useful to society and the most profitable to own. Urban, Rural and Wilderness Circuits can be installed at far lower cost than Dense Urban circuits – but will carry less traffic.

The recommended transport-price per capsule is a one-price-fits-all of $5 or £3 - using the same logic as the Victorian postal service one-price Penny Stamp. The revenue will be automatically divided across all circuits travelled – similar to the way telephone charges are shared across networks. We calculate the base cost of transporting a capsule at $2 dollars, less than any existing freight system – earning a 70% profit. Skilled professionals can check & change the 50 variables in our Greater London EXCEL model.

Each Terminal – entrance or exit – for example an entry point shared by a row of shops or offices – will be fenced into a security cage. Registered senders (and receivers) will have access to Terminals using a Transport Internet™ Debit card – which also acts as an identity key to the secure area.  All capsules will be auto-scanned – many times per journey – for banned cargoes – particularly people.

The Transport Internet™ (TTI) cargo-capsules are no more of a security risk than the millions of cars and freight vehicles travelling the roads & rails today.
Every cargo-capsule will be automatically routed by an address chip on the front and rear of the capsule. The address chip will be re-set by the sender.

One reason for setting the maximum size of cargo-capsules as 1 metre x 2 metres is to accommodate man-handling at Terminals. Many capsules will emerge at and be sent from remote Terminals, say, on farms, where they will be handled by one or two persons – by hand. Much larger capsules – say filled with bottles of beer, could be far too cumbersome.

In engineering terms, it may be obvious that to create a global Transport Internet, all our pipelines must be built using the same dimensions, protocols and specifications; to allow capsules free passage everywhere.  Our project Team’s main function is to coordinate the design and to act as guardian of the standard specifications.

Similarly the commercial specifications and the pricing need to be co-ordinated. All Circuit-Owners will buy and sign a Franchise Agreement.

The Transport Internet™ Inventors have invested £1.5 million to date in this idea. We own the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). The broad overall concept for The Transport Internet™, using pipes and LIMs, we are advised is not readily patentable; but we have prior published the concept and do own defensible copyright and design rights in all the work since 2005. Our legally defensible patents, several dozen, will vest in the detail of the “How-To” work, in the engineering blueprints, the commercial blueprints and in the controlling software.  These protections will all be put in place alongside the first major financial and engineering step – to build a 3 km Sales Demonstration Circuit – currently planned to be sited at Spadeadam, Cumbria, UK.

DEMENTED $100,000 PREMIUM

Pre-Westminster, pupating MPs and Lords
A KWIK BUCK - You may have heard that UK medics - general practitioners (GPs) who are often the first port of call for ill people - are to be paid by the British government £55 for every patient they diagnose to be suffering from Alzheimer's.

There was a similar UK program to counter tooth decay, back in the 1950's. The then government in its infinite wisdom (clever pun there) paid dentists 2s/6d or half-a-crown (another pun), for every tooth they drilled and filled with metal amalgam. The immediate result was that hundreds of dentists rushed from overseas to the UK, set up practice and embarked on industrial scale (pun three) drilling and filling - to fill their bank accounts. Britain got the infamous "Australian Trench" - when the young antipodean dentists heard the call, flooded into the UK and drilled their way to untold wealth. The whole of my generation - youngsters and teenagers - were saved from potential agonizing tooth decay - by the simple act of the dentist drilling out every molar (the double teeth) in our heads - upper and lower; irrespective of need or condition - and pouring in liquid metal; irrespective of the possible poisonous metallic side effects - unwanted radio signals and irreversible damage to perfectly healthy teeth.

I won't bother to count the molars in an average head, but there are about a dozen that can be hollowed out and the pulp cast away. That's 12 times half-a-crown (a pre-decimalization coin of which there were 8 in one Pound sterling) - so the average mouth yielded an effortless £1.50 and theoretically saved the National Health Service millions on not having to supply false teeth when the teenagers aged. £1.50 in those far off times was a day's pay. An expert in Australian Trenches could do 15 hapless patients a day - making 15 times the average pay rate. They got rich - and the British got amalgam - which later loosened and had to be bored out and re-cemented.

Thus may it be with The Alzheimer's premium. £55 quid for spotting a demented Brit is good money for medics. 10 a day - £550 or $825 a day - as an aside to their normal income - will be a Nice Little Earner, a good bonus. The quickest GPs will instantly realize that in just two large House in Westminster in the heart of London are  corralled 1,438 almost certainly demented elders - and very elderly persons - who could be listed in a day - or a week at most - and the medical bonus claim staked. £55 x 1,438 MPs and Lords (and Ladies) yields a quick £79,090 or $118,635. Just in time for Christmas.

STRICTLY COME VOTING - PIVOTAL CHANGE

It is said that "POLITICS IS SHOW BUSINESS FOR UGLY PEOPLE". But change is upon us. Referendum Politics will Scotch them all and polish up our politicians.

UK observers will have noticed that last week the UKIP (UK Independence Party) won its first seat in Parliament, when a Conservative Member of Parliament, Douglas Carswell, defected from the Conservative Party (The Tories) to join UKIP and triggered a by-election in his own seaside district, Clacton - a solid Tory seat, which he won for UKIP by a large margin. 3 or 4 other UKIP notables are, bizarrely, MEPs (Members of the European Parliament), despite their avowed single issue policy of wanting the UK to quit the 550 million strong European Union and ditch the EU parliament of which they are members. UKIP also fought another by-election at Heywood & Middleton, in the north of England, in a Labour Party (allegedly working class socialist) stronghold - and very nearly won that seat too. Why should England tremble?

RETURN OF THE NAZIS? - This rise of UKIP is fueling frenzied speculation that despite having no policies at all, at the next general election UKIP will win 25 seats out of the 600'odd seats - and will hold the balance of power. Thus the face of British politics will be transformed as all parties swerve hard right on squealing tires to adopt and adapt the UKIP message, as babbled over a beer by their cheeky-cheery-chappy anointed leader, Nigel Farage MEP. Because Farage mostly stirs up the rabble against immigration, immigrants and all things that have changed since The 1942 Battle of Britain, some detect the dark seeds and shadow of the rise of the rabble rousing Nazi Party. "Let's find somebody to hate."

In pre-World-War-Two England the Nazis, the insane, psychopathic scum of Europe that floated to the top of the then chaos, were The Blackshirts, who emerged from the same upper-class stable and used similar messages as UKIP. "Close the borders. Banish the sick (Ebola and AIDS). Repatriate East Europeans who take our low paid jobs. Scrap the global Human Rights Act (which was forged by Britain), concentrate undesirable aliens in barbed-wired camps, and shun all things from Brussels." As The Times, when it was a globally respected newspaper, allegedly expressed the nationalistic feelings on 22nd October 1957, in our last days of Empire "HEAVY FOG IN CHANNEL - CONTINENT CUT OFF".

Will UKIP rise like the Nazi phoenix from the ashes of the regularly forecast Euro meltdown and lead Great Britain to a brave new, nearly all white, English speaking, Rule Britannia, world domination? Will UKIP change the entire party political system in Britain - The Tories, The Socialists, The Liberals, The Green Party, UKIP and The Monster Raving Loony Party (yes really). UKIP has the traditional ingredients; the UKIP leaders are millionaire bankers, stock brokers and Ivy League school boys, skilled at ordering Fags and servants; thus they are our natural leaders. "God Bless you kind Sir for your Charity. God Bless you Mr Scrooge for the Christmas goose". They are thick as two short planks and would bravely lead us all into the Charge of the Light Brigade, or the trenches of WW1, without a thought for their own or our lives. So they could be the pivot of change back to the good old days - and hold the balance of power in our 1,000 year old democracy - at Westminster.

REFERENDUM POLITICS - But it won't be like that. Change is coming. Without a doubt we are living in pivotal times, when even the unwritten British Constitution and the 1776 American Declaration of Independence will no longer protect the embedded establishment from change. The change that is rapidly overtaking the old hierarchical system - of voting for a person or party, who promote a single policy we like, and then we get nine hundred other policies we don't like - is upon us. Due to the irresistible power of The Internet. The UK, US, EU, Russia, China and Old Uncle Tom Cobley and All, will change their system to referendum voting. Voting not for fallible, bribable, blackmailable, vacillating humans, but voting on the specific issues that concern us.

It will require massive education. And each issue will need MPs or Congressmen and public servants to shepherd that single issue through the process. There will need to be a panel that judges when the electorate are sufficiently well informed to make a choice. But it is coming. Scotland showed the way and showed that all people will turn out to vote (87%) if they know what the issue is. No citizen any longer wants to vote for UKIP and get the Neo-Nazi Party. No citizen wants to vote socialist and get Wall Street and The City in power. No citizen wants to vote for clean-air and get choking pollution. We deserve the freedom to vote on specific issues. The electronic age mechanisms now exist in all countries - in  the UK, millions vote every week by telephone, via  the BBC, in STRICTLY COME DANCING. Next we will have STRICTLY COME VOTING. Watch for  and beware of the E-cheats, E-bullies and E-gangsters.

No wonder that all power agencies, worldwide, are desperate to control the Internet and all our communications. Party politics is dying - Referendum Politics is alive.

WE ARE NOT ALONE

Saint Peter - Freed by an Angel

*********
I believe in angels, says Pope Francis – and they help you make right decisions
Each of us has a guardian who protects and helps us understand things, says the pope, in contrast to his predecessor, who was known as a ‘killjoy’
Pope Francis said on Thursday that guardian angels exist and people who listen to their advice are less likely to make the wrong decisions.
“The doctrine on angels is not fantasist. No, it’s reality,” the pope said during his daily mass in the small chapel in his residence at the Vatican.
“According to church tradition we all have an angel with us, who protects us and helps us understand things,” he said in a message to mark the Feast of the Guardian Angels, celebrated by Catholics on 2 October.
The message that humans are helped along in life by an otherworldly guardian was in contrast to former pope Benedict’s insistence in 2012 that angels did not sing at the birth of Christ – news that devastated many a carol singer and earned him the epithet “killjoy pope”.
Francis asked: “How often have we heard ‘I should do this, I should not do this, that’s not right, be careful ...’. So often! It is the voice of our travelling companion.” The pope advised sceptics to ask themselves: “How is my relationship with my guardian angel? Do I listen to him? Do I say good morning to him? Do I ask him to watch over me when I sleep?
“No one journeys alone and no one should think that they are alone,” he said.

SCOTLAND KILLS PARTY POLITICS WORLDWIDE

Music - Scotland The Brave

THE DEATH OF PARTY POLITICS:

Scotland has voted to stay in Great Britain, the United Kingdom. What the 97% voter registration and the huge, unprecedented turnout of previously dispirited, disaffected, cynical, bored old voters and young new voters (16+ years) means for the future of democracy is that Party Politics will rapidly die and be replaced by Referendum Politics, across the world.

People will vote if their votes are translated into action.  We have had it with voting for gangs, liars, cheats & obscurantists in smoke filled rooms. You may like Obamacare but not his policy on Ukraine; so you deserve to vote on each policy.

Each important issue should be and will be decided by referenda. The Internet has given us the tools for voting. This change will sweep the globe.

***********************

GLOBAL WARMING THREATENS OUR CIVILIZATION.

(NB - I assure you that the planet Earth will be OK. But we might not be).

Disintegration of Larsen B ice shelf. The Larsen B ice shelf began disintegrating around Jan. 31, 2002. The ice was partly on land, sitting on the sea bed, so flotation will raise sea level slightly. It measures 3,250 square kilometres by 200 metres thick - and is one of thousands of carefully observed changes due to global warming.

15 September 2014 - This floating island of ice, which has slipped off the Antarctic continent, is about the size of Rhode Island. It is 200 metres thick and is melting. Most of Antarctica's 14 million sq km LAND area is covered in thick ice - up to 5 km thick in places. It is this land based ice melting at both Poles, on Greenland in the north, that is raising sea level - and that will cause more unpredictable extreme weather and coastal flooding. The US has an area of 9 million sq km. Losing the ice-shelf releases glaciers from inland to flow faster into the sea; a process which has been observed by NASA from satellites and by ground based teams.

Warmer Air Caused Huge Ice Shelf To Collapse Off Antarctica, Scientists Say

The global air and water temperature increase in the last 100 years is on average 0.5 degrees centigrade. The North & South Poles are warming faster than the world average but no scientists will yet predict how quickly the ice is melting. But it is melting - and will cause coastal floods where 5 billion of us have our homes. The other 2 billion will be overwhelmed when the 5 billion migrate. My opinion is that we cannot take the +0.5C back out of the atmosphere and oceans and that the planet has reached a tipping point, but the majority of science hopes that the process can still be halted - or at least slowed - by reducing the amount of global warming gases we humans are pumping into the air.

Whether or not we can reduce the threat - some immediate Can-Do initiatives will reduce global-warming gases and prepare civilization for rising sea-level.

1) PIPELINE SUPPLIES - Most major transport hubs are at sea-level - including, counter-intuitively, seaports; which will be submerged. Despite floods we must keep pumping vital Water & sewage, Oil and Gas.

Fortunately there are today more than 1 million km of large diameter pipelines efficiently transporting these vital commodities across the world, over mountains and underseas. With
Part of Europe's large diameter gas pipeline network.
Over mountains and under seas. Dry goods are next.
intelligent modifications to low lying switching stations, these pipeline-lifelines will continue to function and continue to enable modern civilization.

FOOD & GOODS - We have conceived, over 7 years, a most efficient way to enable dry goods to be auto-transported as cheaply ($5 per capsule) and effectively as Water, Oil & Gas; in lightweight capsules, through one metre diameter pipelines.

The new system is called The Foodtubes Project and is being presented at Imperial College London on 3rd December (See notice below).

Foodtubes has the advantage of being "shovel ready", simple to understand & to install in most countries -  in 100 km self-sustaining, individual, highly profitable loops, with fully automatic routing and it will significantly reduce global warming gases. It uses only 8% of the energy/diesel used by existing systems - and replaces 30% to 50% of freight transport vehicles from our streets, rails, airports and seaports. If your dad is a lorry driver, he won't lose his job. This is evolution, not revolution.

With FOOD, WATER, OIL & GAS supplies being secured via pipelines- humankind can survive and adapt to the coming changes. Can we install even more pipes under London & New York and between cities? Ever wondered what your great-great grandparents thought of the radical plans for the installation of London Underground or the New York Subway? Ever wondered how every home in our great cities is served with fresh water - without millions of water-trucks jamming our streets - and you never see or hear it, the heaviest of all cargoes, being delivered?

Pipeline transport is 150 years well-proven and is flood-proof. Think of the Channel Tunnel. With modern no-dig civil engineering, pipelines are installed by moles, without digging surface trenches. There is no need for senior public servants to throw up their hands in horror, exclaiming as a lady at the UK's Ministry of Transport did 3 years ago "But its NEW Mr. Hodson - Its NEW! Public servants are overworked and underpaid trying to keep existing transport systems running week by week. New systems need new corporate muscle and resources alongside government support.

2) Equally useful in addressing both global warming today and preparing the coastal margins for flooding, are the Dutch /Nederlands construction of homes and villages that float when the floods arrive. These are real buildings that exist now. All regions subject to flooding should build them.

As my Utopian E-novel AD2516 - After Global Warming (see cover in right hand margin of this page) forecasts, such amphibious structures will lead to entire floating oceanic cities being built. The UK and US have world-renowned marine engineering skills that are up to the task. Such cities will be self sustaining and will put Noah's Ark in the shade, like a matchbox next to an aircraft carrier. Boris Johnson's London Estuary Airport plan ought to be for an amphibious airport complex.

It is time to get on with it in our Can-Do society - regardless of whether the Scots, next week, lamentably, cut themselves adrift from Great Britain and drift away into the North Sea.

WAR WITH RUSSIA - NEW RESERVE CURRENCY

NEWSFLASH - 25 MARCH 2015. Is it immodest or perhaps premature to say "I told you so". Following last week's news of China launching the Asian Infrastructure Bank and the UK clambering on board, which horrified America, and my speculation below that prodding the Russian Bear with pointed sticks could force Russia into new currency alliances - comes this: "The International Monetary Fund recently released the latest numbers for the world economy. And when you measure national economic output in “real” terms of goods and services, China will this year produce $17.6 trillion — compared with $17.4 trillion for the U.S.A. As recently as 2000, we produced nearly three times as much as the Chinese.  http://www.marketwatch.com/story/its-official-america-is-now-no-2-2014-12-04

2015 is a pivotal year in an epic history making century for the human race. How can I stay around long enough to see what happens next?

***********  HOT OR COLD WAR WITH RUSSIA?

What does the future hold for the new cold war between Russia and the West? If the US and EU persist in snapping at Putin's heels with personally irritating, if harmless, "economic sanctions" it risks stimulating Russia to turn to China, India, Africa and South America, perhaps also drawing in The Middle East, to form a new currency bloc. The entirety of what Bank of America, The Bank of England, The Central European Bank, Wall Street and The City do, with millions of employees; the paper we all shuffle so trustingly, could now be duplicated on a few powerful computers, situated anywhere on, or off, the planet.

The Electronic and Advanced Telecommunications Revolution, which we could say started when the average person or business acquired a desk-top PC and Sir Tim Berners-Lee explained the scope of the World Wide Web - say in 1988 - has made it possible to easily replicate the Anglo-Saxon Paper Economy, bookkeeping, at a fraction of current costs. The same functions could be easily automated, with far more efficient, up to date and useful rules and protocols, at about 1,000th of the prices charged by the great lumbering dinosaur of our present global system; evolved over 2,000 years and now engorged and incapacitated by hundred of thousands, if not millions, of work-shy, purblind, self-preening, self-deluding maggots, parasites, leeches and tape-worms.

The Electronic Revolution has also made it possible to replicate any manufacturing process, almost anywhere on the planet, from blue-prints that can be, and are, carried on a few disks or memory sticks across national borders. From primary industries to farming to manufacturing - it is now true to say that we, the human race, "have worked hard to abolish work and we have succeeded". A single combine harvester, some driverless, now do in an afternoon what 200 agricultural laborers used to achieve in a back breaking week. The laborers and their families lived an average 32 years before their bodies gave up the ghost. Cheap mass employment is rapidly disappearing into mankind's past. Slavery is becoming a rare event and distant memory. But the Anglo-Saxon Money Economy remains steeped in quaint 18th Century notions of Law, Land, Labor and Capital. It is blindsided to the societal implications of The Electronic Revolution.

CAPITAL & THOMAS PIKETTY

We in The West, the Capitalists, have come to believe our own delusions; we have neglected the realities of raw materials, food acreage, clean and fruitful seas and the long future. We now cleave to usury, numbers printed in bright colors on high quality paper, paper title deeds, numbers momentarily alive on magnetic disks which can be wiped out by a single DELETE key, lunatic micro-second stock & share trading which is divorced from any reality, or indeed from any humans. Above all others, we applaud bankers, lawyers, accountants, CFOs, wheelers, dealers, stock traders, and a host of other clerks who maintain our paper mountains and our delusions that we can batten on other nations by imposing our bookkeeping system, credit cards at 30% per year and siphon out an effortless living from the whole mouth gaping, enraptured world. Will our smoke and mirrors stand close examination?

Could Putin launch a second Reserve Currency and an Eastern Bloc rival to the Almighty Dollar? Should he tremble at our limp handed posturing and our threats to the Russian economy? Are the world's valuable resources accurately reflected by our Anglo-System of Bookkeeping, our Paper Tigers? Do we really own what we we like to imagine we have globally acquired and control? A new system could emerge overnight. Who is the better chess player? Unlike Napoleon and Hitler, should we pause for thought before attacking the Russian Bear?
