The Independent Group - UK democracy leads the world; again. Will America and Europe follow these 21st century reforms?
Most traditionalist, elderly and habituated politicos, calling for the new Independents to issue a Manifesto. are not seeing the wood for the trees. They can only see that a new-baby-party has to emerge, and grow-up with the faulty DNA of our failed 200 year old system. Wake-up! The mission of the eleven rebels (as at 21 Feb 19) is to release all MPs, our elected representatives, from the bullying party system - and give all 650 MPs (and their counterparts in the House of Lords) free votes.
Think through the implications of this straightforward mission - and understand that the party system, the political system, run by a bunch of about 50 people - some hidden in the shadows - will dissolve. It is less exciting than rolling out guillotines or dismissing Russian, Chinese and French aristocrats, but this UK revolution is just as profound; and will be rapid and permanent.
It will mean far more work for the MPs as they research and ponder the issues to be voted on in Parliament.
20th February 2019. Three Tory MPs and one more Labour MP quit the parties this morning to join the Independent Group: Joan Ryan - Labour and Anna Soubry, Sarah Woolaston, and Heidi Allen - Conservative . It brings the fresh spring air of real reform and honesty. Now the rebels number 11 independents.
We’ll be setting out more of our thinking and activity in the coming days
and weeks. Please invite your friends and family to support the movement too –
through donations,
volunteering,
and by spreading the word on social media.

Congratulations on cutting the chains. On the
Brexit issue alone you can recruit 16.8 million gagged Remain voters – today
the number will be nearer 18 million. The nation can at last speak out and
breathe the air of freedom.
Do not walk into the sucker-punch of by-elections –
or form a traditional new-party with Whips, bullies, racists and the rest of
the baggage. You might need protection from the shaven-haired, tattooed ERG and
Corbyn mobs and financiers – perhaps the women’s Rugby teams or military corps
will oblige. Stick to Free-Votes for MPs.
Very brave – well done. My wife and I are
celebrating the first cheering political news in five years. I hope the cracks
in the dams are spreading and that you will be joined by 500 more, emboldened
MPs who want freedom of thought and speech. – Noel & Pauline Hodson,

18 feb 2019 : MPs will sit as independent group after resigning in protest at Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership, the party’s Brexit stance, and its handling of antisemitism

Subject: The Magnificent Seven - Freedom for MPs to Vote with their
Consciences
Guardian
on-line, 18 Feb 2019, reports that “Labour split: seven MPs resign from the
party”. This welcome movement, challenging the old, stifling, paralyzed party
system, could and should be the trickle through the dam that immediately
becomes a great and refreshing flood. We hope that hundreds of MPs from all
parties will resign the whip, throw off the party-yokes and announce themselves
to be standing as independent representatives, with well informed, free-votes
on all issues. Ministers can be appointed and sacked by MP’s votes. This could
be the major reform and breath of fresh air that 21st Century
citizens seek. My wife and I are Remainers – our suicidal choices today are
Vote Corbyn and Leave – or Vote May and Leave – or Vote Anon and Wait A Decade.
Our choices on most vital issues are gagged by the same strangling
straitjacket. I hope these seven brave and bold rebels inspire the other 650
elected representatives to take back control, win back sovereignty, earn their
substantial salaries, and think for themselves. Dare we suppose that free MPs
might even consult their constituents; and vote on-line in the
electronic-society? – Noel Hodson, Oxford
