CARDINAL SINS

Holy men - high on sexual sadism.

Contributors to Guardian Letters 25 Feb 19, and religious leaders, currently mass debating about Catholic paedophilia, might consider that demanding unnatural sexual behavior, celibacy, as decided at the Second Lateran Council 1139, denying God’s imperatives for normal humans (which produces boils) is a gross heresy against Nature. On Judgement Day, how will its advocates explain why they were right to stone fornicators to death -  and how they think God got the design and urges of humans, his Children of God,  so very wrong?  Noel HODSON - Author

Below are just two of the hundreds of contemporary complaints against clergymen and nuns, of sexual abuse and of  sadistic treatment  of orphans and single-mothers. All these offences are directly caused by the very weird, strange and insane imposition of celibacy on religious orders. Celibacy is undeniably an unnatural curb on normal, innocent, healthy, God-given powers and behavioral-characteristics of well-balanced humans. Such prohibitions are not confined to medieval Catholics; they infect most religions, which prefer to meditate on controlling their parishioners' sex lives rather than on charity and doing good acts. The alleged self-proclaimed "pure" clergy then define normal behavior as impure "SIN" - and set about punishing the  sinners, physically or psychologically - satisfying their own perverted sexual pleasures via sadism. It is long past the time that stone-age and medieval religious misconceptions were consigned to the dustbin of extremely bad ideas. Let's start with the ridiculous philosophy of celibacy.  We might learn from chimpanzees, who don't kill fornicators, or ritualistically cut-off parts of their children's sex-organs.
BBC - NEWS 25 FEB 19 : Cardinal George Pell has been found guilty of sexual offences in Australia, making him the highest-ranking Catholic figure to receive such a conviction.
Pell abused two choir boys in the rooms of a Melbourne cathedral in 1996, a jury found. He had pleaded not guilty.
The verdict was handed down in December, but it could not be reported until now due to legal reasons.
Pell is due to face sentencing hearings from Wednesday. He has lodged an appeal against his conviction.
As Vatican treasurer, the 77-year-old Australian was one of the Church's most powerful officials.
His trial was heard twice last year because a first jury failed to reach a verdict.
A second jury unanimously convicted him of one charge of sexually penetrating a child under 16, and four counts of committing an indecent act on a child under 16.

THE MISSION - FREE VOTES FOR ALL MPs

The Independent Group - UK democracy leads the world; again. Will America and Europe follow these 21st century reforms?

We’ll be setting out more of our thinking and activity in the coming days and weeks. Please invite your friends and family to support the movement too – through donations, volunteering, and by spreading the word on social media.

Most traditionalist, elderly and habituated politicos, calling for the new Independents to issue a Manifesto. are not seeing the wood for the trees. They can only see that a new-baby-party has to emerge, and grow-up with the faulty DNA of our failed 200 year old system. Wake-up! The mission of the eleven rebels (as at 21 Feb 19) is to release all MPs, our elected representatives, from the bullying party system - and give all 650 MPs (and their counterparts in the House of Lords) free votes.

Think through the implications of this straightforward mission - and understand that the party system, the political system, run by a bunch of about 50 people - some hidden in the shadows - will dissolve. It is less exciting than rolling out guillotines or dismissing Russian, Chinese and French aristocrats, but this UK revolution is just as profound; and will be rapid and permanent.

It will mean far more work for the MPs as they research and ponder the issues to be voted on in Parliament.

20th February 2019. Three Tory MPs and one more Labour MP quit the parties this morning to join the Independent Group: Joan Ryan - Labour and Anna Soubry, Sarah Woolaston, and Heidi Allen - Conservative . It brings the fresh spring air of real reform and honesty. Now the rebels number 11 independents.

Congratulations on cutting the chains. On the Brexit issue alone you can recruit 16.8 million gagged Remain voters – today the number will be nearer 18 million. The nation can at last speak out and breathe the air of freedom.

Do not walk into the sucker-punch of by-elections – or form a traditional new-party with Whips, bullies, racists and the rest of the baggage. You might need protection from the shaven-haired, tattooed ERG and Corbyn mobs and financiers – perhaps the women’s Rugby teams or military corps will oblige. Stick to Free-Votes for MPs.

Very brave – well done. My wife and I are celebrating the first cheering political news in five years. I hope the cracks in the dams are spreading and that you will be joined by 500 more, emboldened MPs who want freedom of thought and speech.  – Noel & Pauline Hodson, OXFORD.

Subject: The Magnificent Seven - Freedom for MPs to Vote with their Consciences

Guardian on-line, 18 Feb 2019, reports that “Labour split: seven MPs resign from the party”. This welcome movement, challenging the old, stifling, paralyzed party system, could and should be the trickle through the dam that immediately becomes a great and refreshing flood. We hope that hundreds of MPs from all parties will resign the whip, throw off the party-yokes and announce themselves to be standing as independent representatives, with well informed, free-votes on all issues. Ministers can be appointed and sacked by MP’s votes. This could be the major reform and breath of fresh air that 21st Century citizens seek. My wife and I are Remainers – our suicidal choices today are Vote Corbyn and Leave – or Vote May and Leave – or Vote Anon and Wait A Decade. Our choices on most vital issues are gagged by the same strangling straitjacket. I hope these seven brave and bold rebels inspire the other 650 elected representatives to take back control, win back sovereignty, earn their substantial salaries, and think for themselves. Dare we suppose that free MPs might even consult their constituents; and vote on-line in the electronic-society? – Noel Hodson, Oxford

PS – How can we donate to the Magnificent-Seven? Via the Guardian?

PURSUING A FRAUD CALLED BREXIT

Any sane person would insist on a 75% referendum win.
What were and are his motives?

Pursuing a Fraud called Brexit

By Mel Cooper

The Leave Campaign was an act of fraud. It looks to me as if it might as well have been based on the old 1930s Fascist playbook rules, the ones where you tell a lie, you repeat the lie, you amplify the lie, you keep repeating the lie and then people simply accept the various lies you are treating in this way and believe them. The lies have to be aimed at the viscera and raw emotion and avoid the intellect altogether. The Leave Campaign appealed precisely (if somewhat covertly) to the basest instincts of us all and the people who voted for it were being encouraged to give vent to xenophobia and even racism.

Why is no one willing to point out that the whole thing was a fraud?

If Brexit were a business deal, it should be possible to sue the Leave Campaign for fraud. We were promised so many things that simply will never be possible. And it was all based on false and pernicious premises! They said we will get back control of our money, implying someone else is controlling it; yet we have always had control of our money and still do. With an overall UK budget of roughly 990 billion pounds a year, we have chosen for decades to se send a raw contribution that currently amounts to about 14 billion (before all the rebates) for our membership in the EU. It is just over 1.5% of the annual spend of the UK government. That small spend is a bargain that buys us free access, without tariffs, to a huge market; and gives us a seat at the top table actually creating the laws and ideals. We are not therefore vassals of the EU but members who have contributed massively to it intellectually and morally. Brexit undermines our perceived position as moral, economic and intellectual leaders in the EU.

Perhaps the EU needs to be improved in some ways, as they claim. Let’s discuss that and see what we want to do about it. We have had over 40 years of peace and prosperity from it for a cost of around 1% of our annual budget year after year. What is so wrong about that? What are the Brexiteers complaining about: the peace or the prosperity?

As for the borders of the UK, they lied about that too: we have control of our borders. How else did Theresa May manage to cause such problems for the Windrush people and many more? Brexit is a great distraction from the errors and sins of the Conservative Government perpetrated over the past eight years. There are plenty of rules in the EU system that would enable the UK government to keep closer tabs on EU people who come here to work; and to send back those who lose a job and do not find a new one. The government has been too lazy or uninterested; and Theresa May has been obsessed with figures that are simply provocative. She has insisted on including students who are here for a brief spell, for example. And she has made it much harder for them to stay and look for a job and settle in this country and contribute to our economy and culture. Already, Brexit is discouraging people from the EU from coming here to work in our NHS, our service industries, and so on. And the Brexit campaign did not explain that we are very likely to have to give away visas to many countries who want them badly in exchange for the free trade agreements that the Brexiteers promised us would be ready to start the day after we leave the EU. So much for “taking back” control of our borders. That was another falsehood.

So tell a lie that will win you votes, repeat it endlessly, and make sure it appeals to the viscera and not the intellect. Got that? Appeal to prejudices, subtly or not. Threaten the influx of Turks into the country, for example; just as Donald Trump threatens the influx of Mexicans. They are evil, dark skinned bastards and will rape all our women. That’s because the millions of evil Turks are all going to be violent and under-educated men, of course, full of raging testosterone and without families or ties or a desire for a decent life. Only we Brits understand what it is to have a desire for a decent life, not those pesky foreigners. Hence we have to leave the EU before we are corrupted. (Besides, if we are very good and leave the EU, God will make sure that we get our Empire back. Just ask Jacob Rees-Mogg or Boris Johnson or Nigel Farage.)

I am puzzled by what the people who led Brexit actually hope to gain from all this. I can only suppose that they hate the EU so much because it is actually a democratic arrangement that might hamper their abilities to get even richer and to place more and more of their money safely off shore. It hasn’t stopped one of Jacob the Smugg from moving businesses to Dublin so that the businesses can have access to the EU. It hasn’t stopped Freaky Farage from getting EU passports for his children. Brexit suits them because, as Jacob Rees-Smugg actually said, we will be able to redo the rulebooks for workers’ rights and many other things that are a real nuisance to the privileged classes and their entitlements. So we have been gulled into voting to make the rich richer and probably to make the poor poorer as well, though believe me the Brexiteers are not capable of even thinking beyond the “rich richer” aspect. As Tom Cruise said in Jerry Maguire, Follow the Money!

We will leave the EU. Theresa May (whose husband is involved for his living in sending money off shore, but hell, that probably has nothing to do with anything) insists it is the will of the people. If we did not, then over 17 million people (who have seem to have paid no attention to the events of the past two years and therefore have no motivation to question Brexit) will doubtless feel betrayed and angry.

The problem is that over 16 million people, when we leave, will feel even more strongly betrayed and angry because the choice at the moment is non-existent and they have no party and no champions to give them an adequate voice. Jeremy Corbyn is not in Opposition, except to Capitalism as he conceives it from something he seems to have thought about last around 1968. No one is brave enough to point out that the whole Brexit campaign was a fraud (quite easily picked about, but no one in Labour has bothered to do that properly) and that the 17 million had their worst fears and motives played upon. No one is willing to point out the Project Fear was actually Project Reality Check and an attempt to do what is called Due Diligence. No one is as yet questioning the appalling, institutional bigotry of the right wing press of the UK or its Leave campaign that has been going on for decades.

No one is using wit, intelligence or sheer indisputable fact to try to educate the seriously ill-informed proportion of the people who were railroaded into voting for Brexit. And everyone is fixated on the idea that somehow it is wrong to rethink, reconsider, or question the accepted opinions pumped out by the Daily Telegraph, The Sun, or the other tabloids..

Also no one is willing to look at any of the parallels in history that show this whole thing to be a scam. I can remember when Quebec tried to leave Canada twice. They voted first to have a referendum by 80% on the question of whether to leave Canada and this was seen as an indicator that they would leave Canada. They then spent a year or two debating the whole issue. In the end, when they voted again, 80% chose to remain with Canada. By that time Montreal had become a much less prosperous place as many businesses that loved the city’s atmosphere and European feel had moved to Toronto out of fear of what might happen. This happened twice over. And each time the province of Quebec and the city of Montreal were diminished and spent a lot of time and effort trying to recover. And they stayed.

I think that Brexit has opened up a Pandora’s box that is insidious and dangerous. I think that we could easily see the breakup of the UK as a result. We have not given up our sovereignty, as the Brexiteers kept telling us implicitly by saying we would take it back if we left the EU like good little lambs. We have, in fact, pooled our Sovereignty and that is a very different thing. And what is the UK but four pooled Sovereignties? If you do not believe in pooling your Sovereignty with your European neighbours to gain more clout and power in this world, then why would you think that Scotland, Ireland and Wales should pool their Sovereignty with England? What is the point? If we are stronger together as the UK, how are we not stronger together working with our neighbours in Europe? Somewhere I perceive a disconnect from logic.

So here is what we voted for. We are turning our back on Europe.  They certainly see it that way, and that counts. We are introducing instabilities into Europe and the UK economically and morally. We will only be able to make trade deals with the rest of the world from a position of weakness. Does it not occur to anyone that one of the reasons the UK was so successful in the past four decades is because by opening businesses here, the US and Japan and other countries were buying their entry into the EU? Japan now has a deal with the EU that includes us until 29 March. Once we leave the EU, what use will we be to them; or to any other businesses that need seamless access to EU markets?

But above all, the Brexit vote is a slap in the face of History. Over 75 years ago we had to defend ourselves and by extension the whole of Europe against Fascism and we were dropping bombs on each other. Has the nation no idea of how that connects up with the European Project? Have you forgotten? Are you willing to take a huge risk and gamble the future of the UK and the EU? Think about what this is doing to the Good Friday Agreement for a moment.

And as for the Irish border, I can see no way that opposing the Backstop at this point will not increase the danger of having bombs in Birmingham again. But, according to T May, and to J Corbyn, that vote for a New IRA onslaught is sacrosanct and we are not allowed to think again.

And so, my message to all Remainers is let us give up. Let us get on with it. Let us betray our own history, the peace of the past decades, and our role as good neighbours in Europe. Why are you complaining? Brexit means Brexit and as T May used to say, no deal is better than a bad deal, so let us even crash out of the EU and play by the WTO rules it will take us a considerable effort and amount of time to join. Unfortunately, Saint Theresa did not point out that any deal for leaving the EU is worse than the deal we have by merely staying in and playing a central, significant role in the development of Europe at every level.

But hey, the Brexiteers have their ears plugged and cannot hear what anyone who questions their nonsense is saying. And they no more have a plan for what is needed if we stay in the EU than they do for what happens if we leave, nor do they care, so let’s just go. We have to keep Farage, Rees-Mogg, David Davis, Boris Johnson and all our other betters happy, don’t we? And so we have the tyranny of a tiny majority on a certain day in 2016 that simply holds sway and no one is willing or able to come up with any arguments that will make enough people simply stop and question the opinions dished out lavishly by people like Farage, Rees-Mogg, David Davis and the rest. So carry on doffing those caps, lads, because that is what you are best at!

It may happen that we will overcome and win through ultimately. But I then wonder what is the point of putting us through all this when we could be attending to the crises in the NHS, our Schools, our environment. Think of the energy we could have put into solving real problems in the UK and the EU over the past two years if the vote had gone the other way? But no … The tail that is wagging the Conservatives would have gone on wagging it.

If you look at it coolly and clearly, Brexit is a No Win situation. But that is what we voted for. So let’s go through with it, even though it was based on a series of outrageous myths and lies; because that is what the rogues want; and who are we, cap doffers all, to resist the blandishments of the Farages and Rees-Moggs of this little island home of ours?  Mel Cooper. Oxford, 13th February 2019.

And Brian Hardy, Oxford, UK, writes:

A Labour Party split?

Their leadership has acted and continues to act (if you consider doing nothing as acting) shamefully in many ways, and they deserve to split into little fragments.  But will they?

The same, and probably more, could be said and asked of the Tories.

We have been, and continue to be, served spinelessly by the MPs from just about all parties.  They haven’t shown any determination to stop the May Juggernaut, which I can only see as headed for a no-deal Brexit if the Chequers Plan Two isn't approved.

Events (or, more accurately, lack of them) lead me to believe that May is play-acting. Despite all her protestations to the contrary, I think she is really intent on a no-deal Brexit if her own plan (and it seems she is still wedded to Chequers One despite its huge rejection by Parliament) fails. That’s why she is merely playing for time. Whether we finally get some version of her Chequers Plan or a no-deal exit, she will claim “So, you see what I’ve been saying all along: Brexit really does mean Brexit ... mission accomplished.” I suggest that, for the sake of completeness, she adds: "and sauve qui peut, let the devil take the hindmost”.

AND WHAT IN HEAVEN’S NAME ARE OUR MPS DOING TO STOP HER?

Lord Almighty, it makes one want to … oh, what the hell, I don’t know any more.

Yours in sadness,

Brian (Oxford - 13th Feb 2019)

FROM CHAOS THEORY TO ORGANISMS - TIME TRAVEL

I have just finished the draft of a new time-travel novel, Isaac Newton & The Alchemist's Lad - The Perils of Entanglement, featuring Isaac Newton from 1666 and present-day ten year old Fred - who tells Isaac "My teacher says you were quite bright - in your day." The book is a very readable adventure for young-adults and the young at heart, which has the added bonus of introducing and explaining particle and astrophysics. It misstates two new-physicists' howlers - that you can no doubt spot and untangle as you read.

The means by which they travel through time from 1666 to 2018, then back again, is based on the well attested and fully accepted sub-atomic or quantum theory of entanglement. Einstein at first refused to accept the theory of entanglement, dubbing it "spooky action at a distance." Not only did the spooky action spook Albert but the theory also allows - or requires - that particles communicate over these spooky, sometimes long, distances, at faster than the speed-of-light. This, as you all know is impossible because Einstein proved that "Nothing travels faster than Light!"

His theories have been subjected to hundreds of experimental tests over the past one-hundred years, and have been conclusively proved to be correct.

Basically, when two photons are created from the splitting of another particle - often from electrons - the two new photons waste no time and zip off at the speed of light in opposite directions. Though they might journey to the horizon of the Observable Universe, forty-three-point-seven billion light years distant (so you can double that distance if they go to opposite horizons) - the photons, entangled photons, are in communication at all times. They are like identical-twins who are separated at birth and taken to different continents without any communication - yet still look the same, wear the same clothes, have the same hairstyles and both like pistachio ice-cream. They are mysteriously in touch. They are communicating - somehow. They are spookily "entangled".

What irked Einstein even more about these impertinent photons, was and is the fact that they were separating at the speed of light, three-hundred-thousand kilometres per second; and so it was and is impossible for them to receive messages from each other - because "Nothing travels faster than Light". No signal could ever catch up with the flighty photons. But, science proves and has proved time after time, that they are in touch. They chat to each to other all the time.

All objects in the universe, all things, are made of compressed photons. You, me, your parents and pebbles on the beach are all made from photons. An atomic explosion of, say just 100 lbs of uranium releases and  reveals all the photons it contains in an instant, immense explosion as the light and heat locked in there for eons is freed and made visible. The photons are entangled - then blow apart - but still communicating. So - I used this as a time travel mechanism. I teased out of Isaac Newton, with a radio beam, a few of his entangled photons. Because each was in communication, all the photons, trillions of photons, followed each other along the beam "Beam me up Scottie!"

By esoteric methods and science that I must keep secret - at the end of their journey from 1666 to 2018, the photons reassembled themselves in the right order and relationships - and re-made Isaac Newton - and he met Fred. The entangled photons knew their precise positions and functions to re-create Isaac. Time travel is made possible - without magic.

It occurred to me this morning that this power to disassemble and reassemble must also be true for the several trillion cells in the human body. They know their functions; they cooperate; they communicate; new cells know their roles in the business of life; trillions of these immensely complex little factories know what to do - to make an organism that functions - that has a brain - has will and that can sometimes think. BUT HOW?

Whether it is photons making a kilogram of uranium, or cells making a human; how do they know when there are enough? How do they know when to stop adding units to the object? How do they know how to confer a particular identity to the object - or to us?

Like Goldilocks and the Three Bears - these minuscule packets of energy know when the object is too hot, too cold or, miraculously, is just right. A new human baby grows from one, a single cell, to two-trillion cells in nine months. How does it know when it has assembled enough units to trigger birth? This sweet little baby then grows into a 17 stone football player - of about 56 trillion cells; all communicating and swapping information - in a very spooky manner. But how does this hairy heavyweight know where its boundaries are. Why not keep adding cells - randomly? Where does the template - the governing pattern reside? We think we know it is governed by DNA, by inherited DNA, but where is the template, the controller, to assemble trillions of tiny particles into functioning DNA? My guess is that it is in the Aether, in Space-Time, in patterns of electromagnetic light and radio waves.

Is it therefore possible, as I've imagined in my book, to dis-integrate, transport, and re-integrate the constituent parts of an object - of a human being - in full working order? Could we, one day in the future, use photon-entanglement at microscopic levels thousands of times smaller than a human cell, to separate the photons, persuade them to ride on a carefully calibrated radio beam - travelling or propagating even faster than light (in a timeless fashion) - and have them utilize their entanglement to bring all their chums with them, and re-form elsewhere in exactly the same relationships and functions as when they started the journey? Carefully managed - we could be immortal, as envisaged in SF movies where humans upload into computers - but without the need for computers.

"Beam me up Scotty" indeed.

______

The extraordinary, precise communications between cells, molecules, atoms, sub-atomic particles and templates which enable organisms to transcend the sum of their parts, to function - and aspire to act intelligently, are the mysterious mechanisms or force of life.

I want to explore the concept of a fully functioning human - whose parts are self-evidently communicating correctly, as nature intends - and who is communicating with his/her community; the community without which we would certainly die or never come to life - going into outer or "deep" space, progressively losing the communications with family, tribe, race and planet. Will this super-lonely body also lose the inner communications between all the particles - and thus disintegrate? Do our inner communications depend on our environment, the teeming electromagnetic ocean in which we swim, with, currently, seven billion other humans?

The "Isaac" time-travel novel above, imagines that if entangled particles communicate, then teasing a single particle to hitch-hike on a radio-beam will trigger the adjacent particle to follow, then the next, and the next - ad-infinitum. The proven, demonstrable spooky quantum-entanglement might, could, or should inform each particle of it's unique place - in its ordained and accepted order - in the original body (mass). On arrival, at the target of the radio-beam, the second (entangled) particle will attach  to the first, then the third will find its position, then the fourth, then the cascade of trillions of communicating particles will take their places - and rebuild the original body, in the new location.

Our bodies do not have a definitive "edge". The trillions of mutually dependent cells, each happily playing its appointed role, if examined under an electron-microscope, viewing the alleged boundary, skin or integument, are seen to be loosely attached. A few drift away from our skin at all times. If rubbed, millions fall away and scatter. Most house dust consists of discarded human skin cells. The skin is bombarded with incoming particles, rays, beams, light. Where our skin meets the universe there is a zone of constant interchange. There is no thin red line - or brown, black, yellow line of demarcation which says "This person stops here." But somehow, we know where we end. We know our permitted shape and size - and in turn all the cells know. And if they know their function and place, then so do the molecules, made of atoms, made of sub-atomic-particles, made of light - within our supposedly private person. They all know their place. All parts are communicating; communicating vital data and energy. If they get it wrong we die. We disintegrate, we fall apart.

For seventy or a hundred years or so - they get it right. From our entangled photons to our factory-like cells, all the bits get it right. And we live. We are the product of all these communications. "We" ourselves - our unique identities - exist as an intelligent organism (with some notable exceptions) only because "our" sub-atomic-particles, which in isolation we might regard as dead or inert packets of energy, constantly, tirelessly, persistently communicate - with meaning and purpose. We integrate these countless trillions of communications and make sense of them. We are brilliant examples of the Life-Force.

However, we are not alone. Counting only our seven-billion or so living primate relatives and leaving aside the billions of other living creatures - and assuming that only the Earth produces life, we are forever receiving and broadcasting electromagnetic signals to each other. Such signals alter our DNA. We are changed by everyone and by everything we encounter. These communications are possibly the energy and organisation that create the Life-Force.

If one of us drifts into deep-space, far from such life-giving communications and energies - too far to receive and send - momentarily happy to get away from it all, because as Sartre told us "Hell is other People" - would we survive?

In the vast ocean of life, we are bombarded with waves of coherent data and information. We are literally "informed" by the signals we receive (and send). Our skin passes on the electromagnetic data to our (entangled) inner cells and down to our entangled-photons. Without this maelstrom of information, of vital communication from the entire universe - would we cease to exist?

When we do eventually succumb, as our number is called, as our three-score-years-and-ten, with added time for good behaviour, runs out - and our personal identity communications cease - is the pattern of all our communications on record, still broadcasting out to the 43.7 b.l.y. horizon of the observable universe? Is our essential self still entangled? Do our very personal entangled photons bounce back from the edge of time and reassemble, reintegrate and form another, quite similar creation?

28 Jan 18 - MOVING TO WTO RULES COULD TAKE 7 YEARS, EU LAW EXPERTS WARN.

The UK will be unable to have frictionless, tariff-free trade under World Trade Organization rules for up to seven years in the event of a no-deal Brexit, according to two leading European Union law specialists.

The ensuing chaos could double food prices and plunge Britain into a recession that could last up to 30 years, claim the lawyers who acted for Gina Miller in the historic case that forced the government to seek parliament’s approval to leave the EU.
It has been claimed that the UK could simply move to WTO terms if there is no deal with the EU. But Anneli Howard, a specialist in EU and competition law at Monckton Chambers and a member of the bar’s Brexit working group, believes this isn’t true.
“No deal means leaving with nothing,” she said. “The anticipated recession will be worse than the 1930s, let alone 2008. It is impossible to say how long it would go on for. Some economists say 10 years, others say the effects could be felt for 20 or even 30 years: even ardent Brexiters agree it could be decades.”
The government’s own statistics have estimated that under the worst case no-deal scenario, GDP would be 10.7% lower than if the UK stays in the EU, in 15 years.
There are two apparently insurmountable hurdles to the UK trading on current WTO tariffs in the event of Britain crashing out in March, said Howard.
Firstly, the UK must produce its own schedule covering both services and each of the 5,000-plus product lines covered in the WTO agreement and get it agreed by all the 163 WTO states in the 32 remaining Parliamentary sitting days until 29 March 2019. A number of states have already raised objections to the UK’s draft schedule: 20 over goods and three over services.
To make it more complicated, there are no “default terms” Britain can crash out on, Howard said, while at the same time, the UK has been blocked by WTO members from simply relying on the EU’s “schedule” – its existing tariffs and tariff-free trade quotas.

25 Jan 18 - Mueller is digging into Trump’s suspicious actions and Russian collusion that swung the presidential result. Mueller is making arrests at a high level. These might result in impeachment – overturning the election. Equally, the Brexit Campaign result is just as questionable. It was obviously based on lies and gross data interference. Brexit should be shelved while a high level investigation is conducted. Ploughing on to “get it over the line” will bankrupt the UK. Who is our Mr Mueller? I will subscribe to help with costs.

BREXIT - REJOIN WTO - SCRAP THE PARTIES

ANY BREXIT WILL COST 7 MILLION UK JOBS

SHOCK - HORROR. WHAT A MESS: We are not independent members of the WTO. Only via the EU do we have membership rights and duties. And it takes months to apply and join  independent from the EU. All the blustering and posturing about leaving "Without A Deal, On WTO Terms" is utter nonsense.

DOH! If we quit the EU we will have NO trading terms. We start over globally with no deals at all. What will it take? Another 45 years? Will the ERG, David Davis, Farage, Number 10 and the rest of the Brexiters please explain themselves.

ARE WE MEMBERS OF THE WTO ? CHECK HERE.

*************

(Join the WTO: The talks can be highly complicated. It has been said that in some cases the negotiations are almost as large as an entire round of multilateral trade negotiations.)

We are members, via the EU. Ooops! Which lapses on 29th March – so we’ll have to apply, and abide by the WTO Court rules. We applied for independent (independent from the EU) membership on 3rd Dec 2018. It can take years to win membership.

How to join the WTO: the accession process:

Any state or customs territory having full autonomy in the conduct of its trade policies may join (“accede to”) the WTO, but WTO members must agree on the terms. Broadly speaking the application goes through four stages:
First, “tell us about yourself”. The government applying for membership has to describe all aspects of its trade and economic policies that have a bearing on WTO agreements. This is submitted to the WTO in a memorandum which is examined by the working party dealing with the country’s application. These working parties are open to all WTO members.
Second, “work out with us individually what you have to offer”. When the working party has made sufficient progress on principles and policies, parallel bilateral talks begin between the prospective new member and individual countries. They are bilateral because different countries have different trading interests. These talks cover tariff rates and specific market access commitments, and other policies in goods and services. The new member’s commitments are to apply equally to all WTO members under normal non-discrimination rules, even though they are negotiated bilaterally. In other words, the talks determine the benefits (in the form of export opportunities and guarantees) other WTO members can expect when the new member joins. (The talks can be highly complicated. It has been said that in some cases the negotiations are almost as large as an entire round of multilateral trade negotiations.)
Third, “let’s draft membership terms”. Once the working party has completed its examination of the applicant’s trade regime, and the parallel bilateral market access negotiations are complete, the working party finalizes the terms of accession. These appear in a report, a draft membership treaty (“protocol of accession”) and lists (“schedules”) of the member-to-be’s commitments.
Finally, “the decision”. The final package, consisting of the report, protocol and lists of commitments, is presented to the WTO General Council or the Ministerial Conference. If a two-thirds majority of WTO members vote in favour, the applicant is free to sign the protocol and to accede to the organization. In many cases, the country’s own parliament or legislature has to ratify the agreement before membership is complete.

United Kingdom and the WTO
This page gathers information on the United Kingdom's participation in the WTO.
The United Kingdom has been a WTO member since 1 January 1995 and  a member
of GATT since 1 January 1948. It is a member State of the European Union (more info).
All EU member States are WTO members, as is the EU (until 30 November 2009
known officially in the WTO as the European Communities for legal reasons)
in its own right.
United Kingdom submits draft post-Brexit
services commitments to WTO
WTO members received today, 3 December 2018, the United Kingdom’s draft schedule
outlining its WTO commitments for services once the UK leaves the European Union.
Members now have 45 days to review the schedule before certification.

Assuming that you are referring here to the case of Britain,  there are several points to raise. The first is that Britain was, is and will remain a member of the WTO. The second thing to keep in mind is that the process of Britain’s independent integration into a series of WTO commitments will depend to a certain extent on the terms of its exit from the European Union.

All Members of the WTO must have a schedule of commitments related to the terms of market access for their trading partners. In the case of Britain, the country does not have an independent schedule but as part of the European Union, it has abided by the terms of the common EU schedule. After Brexit the British  will need to have an independent schedule.
What they have formally proposed is to mirror the existing EU schedule with respect to market access for goods and services. This has been rather well received and it seems unlikely that there will be much difficulty on these points with other WTO members.
What may be more difficult is determining how Britain and the EU share existing tariff rate quotas (TRQs) for imports of agricultural products. Britain and the EU have proposed a system of sharing these quotas which have to date not been acceptable to several key WTO members so negotiations will be required here.
There will also be negotiations required for Britain to join the Government Procurement Agreement (GPA). Again the British are proposing the same terms as they shared as an EU Member state. It’s difficult to say how the negotiations on TRQs and GPA may progress. There is a great deal of good will towards Britain among WTO Members, but keep in mind that WTO delegates are trade negotiators. They may seek additional access beyond what is on offer. This is normal and there is no reason to believe that trade between Britain and non-EU WTO members will face any serious disruption.

What happens with the 27 EU members, all of whom are WTO Members, will depend on the bilateral negotiations between London and Brussels.

1.45 pm 18 Jan 2015.  Trade Minister Liam Fox just reported that he has NO new deals on the cards with ANY non-EU countries – and that the nearly-done deal to continue normal trade with Switzerland has stalled. Japan’s Ambassador to Britain said Japanese investment here is investment into Europe via the UK. He implied diplomatically that the car factories will close.

Calamitous!

Where are the post-Brexit deals?

Brexit Bullshit, or Profound Profitable Wisdom?

John,

As world trade increases exponentially – e.g. as China, India, Africa and S. America mature, all existing other OECD countries' share of world trade reduces. Its basic arithmetic. It does not mean that Europe and the USA are doing less. The global cake is getting bigger. The EU is in good shape as the largest and richest market in the world.

However – in our exchanges 2015-2019, you, or any Quitters, have never identified any possible new trade deals outside the EU. Will the Falkland Islands sign an exclusive deal with us? You’ve only got 68 days to produce your list of great new business for the UK. In the meantime we are losing billions as the world desserts us to our lonely impoverished fate. Scotland, Ireland and probably Wales will go over to the EU.

How do we replace 7M lost jobs? Where’s the new business? Why is The City (and all UK based Japanese companies) relocating to Europe?

What are the real motives of our VIP Brexiters? What are their private purposes? Can you and will you answer these basic questions? Please tell me of just ONE new deal.

Noel

Maybe you are the one peddling bullshit and maybe Ruth Lea DOES know what she is talking about.

Look at the chart that shows the EU share of world trade in decline.

Your idea of job losses is conjecture, no more.

Lovely. Warm relationships. New dawns. Utopia beckons.

Where's the new business to replace 7 million lost jobs?
Tell me of one, single new customer outside the EU. Signed up or potential.

It is all flim-flam Brexit bullshit. So what is the real motive of VIP Brexiters? To escape tax? To advance Putin and Trump's attacks to sabotage the EU? To short sterling and make a killing?

WE ARE BETTER OFF OUT

*******
15 Jan 2019 - London - UK.

"Voting is undemocratic" insist dictatorial committed Leavers.

At 8 pm Greenwich Mean Time (London time) tonight, the 650 MPs in Parliament will vote on Mrs May's 550 page "Brexit Deal" (EU exit agreement) which she has agreed with the European Union. This is NOT the new trade deal that might come into force if the UK does quit the European Union. The trade deal will be hundreds of pages, covering 70,000 products and services, which will start to be negotiated when or if the UK follows through on the July 2016 referendum, when 16.8 million voted Remain and 17.4 million voted Leave.

Polls show that those figures have now reversed, because it is clear that the UK will suffer immense losses if it commits to "The Stupidest Economic Decision Any Nation Has Made - Ever (Michael Bloomberg). Remain is now the majority. 70% of the UK's elected MPs, the ones who can read, write and add-up, want the nation to Remain in the prosperous free market of 550 million Europeans.

But - Mrs May's rapidly resigning Ministers, The Government, being a couple of dozen weak willed, deeply stupid career politicians each paid about £150,000 a year, insist that the July 2016 result is final. It is written  in stone. It is irreversible. Their mantra is "The Will of The People Must be Respected".

I leave it to ordinarily intelligent readers to extrapolate what it would mean if all our past laws could never be changed - Wars with Germany - Witchcraft - Burning Heretics - Votes for Women - Abortion - Children Miners - Slavery - etc. Mrs May has done everything she can do to prevent the 650 MPs having any say, any opinions, any impact, any votes on Brexit. She wants Brexit - and to hell with our hard won, 700 years old, Representative Democracy.

But the MPs are turning the tide. Tonight they can vote to delay and eventually to stop the Brexit process. It is a bitter battle (for the reasons set out below) which could and should result in Parliament taking back control and exercising its mandate for Sovereignty on behalf of the people. This is a momentous night for informed democracy.

Leavers threaten violence if another vote is allowed. Hitler took power that way.

Watch this space. Or the BBC News.

BREXIT - FREE VOTES FOR MPs. SCRAP THE DYSFUNCTIONAL PARTY SYSTEM

The Guardian 11 Jan 2019 reports “Labour must back a people’s vote before the clock runs out” and “No deal would cut GDP by 8% says CBI”. Any form of Brexit after 50 years of being a main-player in the EU will take 8% off our GDP, equivalent to losing 7 million jobs. These immense losses are happening now, as The City and major industries transfer HQs to the EU. Another referendum will bring more chaos - 99% of us voters cannot evaluate the complexities of the EU. We pay 650 MPs, political experts, our local representatives, £75,000 p.a. each to anticipate and manage such issues. The old Party gang system, run by a handful of bullying ministers and whips, has failed. The remedy is not A Very Uninformed People’s Vote; it is a free vote by our newly empowered MPs, permanently scrapping the cartels. As a Remainer, now in the majority, who do I vote for? May, a Leaver? Corbyn, a Leaver? Lib-Dems, 8 MPs? Greens, 1 MP?  I can vote Leave or vote Leave. The Party system does not function. It is time for a major change with each MP taking personal, informed responsibility. We have a few weeks before 29th March, when globally the UK will be diminished, side-lined, bankrupt, and thereafter ignored.

BOTH SIDES OF THE ARGUMENT - CONFUSED BREXIT MORONS, OR CUNNING TAX-EVADERS?

John sent this link from Brexiters, cheering for Fararge, Putin and Trump to destroy the EU as the UK heroically commits economic suicide:   https://brexitcentral.com/

Dear John

Gosh – Remainers talking with each other – and civil servants calculating the impact of Brexit. This must be a Deep State Conspiracy, don’t you think? Factually – the WTO tariffs will bugger up our exports and raise the costs of our imports – and conflicts will be governed by the WTO Court in Geneva. So much for British Sovereignty.

All independent commentators agree that Brexit will ruin the UK. So what are the real motives of our VIP Brexiters? Almost certainly they are trying to escape the escalating EU legal crackdown on tax-havens which harbour £2.3 trillion of UK assets. They’re attempting to impose the Singapore Model.

WTO rules will create tariffs on our EU trade IN and OUT which are currently tariff free. A 10% tariff on cars & parts we send to the EU will immediately reduce our sales by 10% - say Sales & Marketing Directors.

The WTO rules are that IF the UK opts for Zero Tariffs, it must apply them globally. If we break the Rules, we go to the WTO court for probably years – and while that happens, trade is disrupted.

This would cause trading chaos – because tariffs, duties, fees exist and have existed for centuries for good reasons – e.g. to stop dumping, poisoning etc. Disputes about WTO rules are settled in their Swiss Court.

The reason that “No-Deal” assumes “WTO rules” is that we do trade on them already with some, not all, non-EU countries. IF we don’t go to WTO then each and every item (70,000 products) will have to be re-negotiated with every country (164 countries?) which will paralyze trade and take decades.

All these tariffs have been agreed since 1945, now incorporated in EU deals with the world. Quitting the EU nullifies them all for the UK. That’s the panic from industry and the City. It is real – Bad Business – not Project Fear. We cut off all trade rules and start afresh. Utter madness. We don’t have to do this. The alleged benefits of Brexit are emotional, idiotic, woad-painted bullshit. They are non-existent.

Noel
